SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) - Puerto Rico's government plans to demolish 16,000 structures that were heavily damaged by Hurricane Maria nearly two years ago.
Officials said Tuesday that they expect to obtain $400 million in federal funds for the project, pending approval by federal officials.

Still waiting for the names of the “3000 dead”.
Maybe Always On Crack will tell them how to make them “green”?
Allow the US Navy back in that you kicked out,
and they’ll demolish your shacks from offshore.
The local government said it already has received $5.7 million to help pay for environmental studies
I think we have discovered the bottleneck. Demonicrat patronage no doubt.

You’re absolutely right. I was at Roosevelt Roads for a year in ‘93. We had a lot of assets including a Seabee Battalion.
Things would have been a lot different if the leftists didn’t run the Navy out. Once they ran the Navy out of Vieques there was no need for RR on the mainland. So sad.
Puerto Rico Ping! Please Freepmail me if you want on or off the list.
I visited the island months before the storm and honestly saw very little worth rebuilding.those studies will make someone rich but the island is a crime wasteland and has been for decades.

I visited 15+ years ago and found the amount of razor wire and wrought iron deployed for property security off-putting to say the least.
Is there any we can give this place back to Spain ,its rightful owners? That is, if they would take it.
...$400 million in federal funds for the project...
I think Ill move to PR for a while and see if I can get a taste of that graft.
There’s actually many people here (me included, even if I am an all-American patriot, veteran and upstanding citizen) who believe that we have earned the right to end the American Apartheid that is the current limbo “unincorporated territory” and if the United States finally does not want us as full citizens, then yes, we should be returned to Spain. In 1898 we were first class Spanish citizens with direct vote for our government and full representation in the Cortes, and Puerto Rico was a full-fledged Overseas Province of Spain. After the Spanish-American war we went back to being a colony, which to this day continues to be an embarrassment for the so-called Constitutional Republic form of government we all hail.
What does a company do when they have no need for a particular office or personnel: they cut them loose. So, say buona fortuna to them. Some did want their independence, they shot up the Congress and tried to assassinate a president in support of that goal. Give them their wish.
$25k each to demo and remove 600sf pastel painted concrete block hovels.
The only reason they want to remove them is so they can then beg for more $ from Uncle Sugar to replace them. Housing shortage, don’t cha know.
The Dens on that Island are enemies of the United States, they drove it into 80 billion in debt before the storm and another 80 billion after. i say give them Independence and say GOODBYE to the wreck that is Puerto Rico, its the albatross around Americas neck, and its people are totally ungrateful.
A little nonsense now and then is cherished by the wisest men
300? It should be 1/2 million by now.
Put AOC in charge so all the new buildings are green.
Imagine the money laundering opportunities.
