Scotlands first minister says independent nations wield more power in EU than Scotland does within the UK.
Scotland should hold a referendum on independence before 2021 if the U.K. leaves the EU, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said.
A choice between Brexit and a future for Scotland as an independent European nation should be offered in the lifetime of this parliament," the Scottish National Party leader said. "If Scotland is taken out of the EU, a referendum within that timescale must be open to us. That would be our route to avoiding the worst of the damage that Brexit would do.
...Citing the solidarity the EU had shown with Ireland, she said that "independent nations" could wield more power in the EU than Scotland did within the United Kingdom.

Also, although the so called Scotch Irish (Ulstermen) were very pro independence, Scottish settlers were a lot more pro British than the colonists of English descent. The majority of rank and file patriots and leaders were people of English descent, and especially from the old puritan heartlands of East Anglia and the South West.
Please don’t ad hominum me.
You continue to make my point. Leaders of ENGLISH imperial history is replete with numbers of Scots as administrators and military leaders.
The ‘empire’ also used Indian military for years.
Have you considered the Orange had to rely on English support due to minority status in Ireland?
So be it.
Perhaps we shall see...

Scots have also formed a disproportionate number of Prime Ministers and cabinet members over the years, and it has been a running joke for a long time about the higher civil service being dominated by Scots. Scots havent been oppressed by Britain, they have RUN Britain. Hell, even now tgey have prevented us from leaving the EU and their remoaner MPs have stopped us leaving. Add to this the fact they receive more from the uk public purse than they contribute (even with oil revenues) and they are more like dead weight around England’s neck. Good riddance to them if they go so that England can be an actual sovereign nation governed by its own people, but they probably won’t. They have done too well out of the Union over the years and they know it, which is why they rejected independence.
Scotland has been part of the English Union, dominated by Westminster, since 1707.
The UK has been a heavily centralized state until the late 1990s. And the views of the outlying areas have been ignored - which is one of the big reasons for the Brexit vote. In contrast the EU is heavily decentralized and small states like Ireland or areas like Flanders get their point of view listened to or even enacted, unlike in the British union until recently.
This is not one-world government. The EU has no intention of expanding further. The talk of ukraine and turkey is just that - talk.
One-world government is NAFTA
So the fact that Vermont has equal representation in the Senate as Texas or New york means your vote is diluted and you don’t want the union??
The EU is a confederation, remember - and in terms of nearly everything looks for consensus and protecting its weakest members.
Sins is correct - the Scots were over-represented in the colonial effort. They were never exploited to the levels of the Irish UNTIL after the empire collapsed. Since the 1950s, the role of Scotland has decayed due to over-centralization in Westminster.
Note that this is not only a Scottish problem - even northern england resents the over-emphasis on Greater London. It was so bad that in the 1980s even local issues were directed from Westminster - watch “Yes Minster” to get an inkling :) - btw, that’s a plug for Yes Minster - the smartest serial I’ve ever seen. and one of the reasons I was an Anglophile

Ha!
You and my son.
Thanks for the civil discourse.
THIS issue does have some gray areas...
...
Enjoyed the give and take.
My Grandpop MacMillan taught me re; Scotland Forever!
Confederation? The trend is for the EU to seize more and more power, it has never returned any to the member states. It is becoming more and more centralised until it becomes a sovereign union. We are getting out before this happens.
Scotland is certainly not exploited. It is a net recipient of public spending. They have more spent on public services than they pay in tax, unlike England. Northern England certainly gets shafted though. This is because we don’t have a separatist nationalist movement that needs to be appeased.well, we do, but it is rightly perceived by most as an utter joke people’s with coming Danelaw enthusiasts and not serious people.
If Scotland ever gets independence, the SNP will run rampant and unchecked. They are progressive globalist who have openly stated that they want to flood Scotland with refugees and foreigners and change the demographics forever. The British government, for all its faults, isn’t quite as insane as the SNP is.
We will never know for sure, will we.
?
Can you give links to where the SNP stated that?

Full of shit, as most leftist tossers are. This is a common thread from anyone who is pro-EU by the way, open borders, ‘Refugees welcome’ etc. Perhaps as a Pole, you don’t understand this because it doesn’t affect you because your government, sensibly, is resisting the EU thugs imposing rampant moslem rapefugees on Poland’s relatively unspoilt cultural fabric. In much the same way that Scotland is over 96% indigenous white, compared to about 80% in England. People in countries that are better acquainted with the consequences of mass immigration tend to oppose it.
thank you sosef
I will have to lookinto cronos background. I admire the Polish government culture and people.
