Libya: EU officials hoping Trump will pull support for warlord

European officials are hoping Donald Trump’s surprise expression of support for the Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar can be reversed amid division in Washington over US policy on the north African country.

A clarification of US policy is considered necessary in order to build an international consensus condemning the attack on Tripoli that has claimed nearly 300 lives and injured more than 1,000, including migrants trapped in detention centres, since it began this month.

Haftar is seen by Britain and the UN as the immediate aggressor in the conflict. Diplomats were surprised last week when an official White House readout of a telephone call between Trump and Haftar said the US president “recognised Field Marshal Haftar’s significant role in fighting terrorism and securing Libya’s oil resources”.

How about we get the **** out of Libya entirely.

If any of these sand maggots get out of line turn them into pink mist from 25,000 feet and be done with it.

Even Wikipedia has conceded that this is a war between Haftar and various Islamist militias.

I knew I had it wrong. However, Libya was Hillary/Obambi's response to the so-called Arab Spring.

W. Bush has gotten a lot of crap about the Iraq invasion. And while I now believe it to be a waste of our youths' lives and limbs, the entire world believed Saddam to have WMD's. Huge intelligence error, but the world was convinced it to be true.

However, Libya had unilaterally stopped their WMD program and Gaddafi mellowed out and became a benevolent dictator. What was the reason we took him out? I've never read a clear answer.

Thanks Hell-obambi: "We came, We saw, He died" and caused ISIS to expand and kill and maim many more of our best for years. I won't get started on the Benghazi cluster-f*ck.

Khalifa Haftar's yearlong Tripoli offensive against the Ankara-backed Government of National Accord (GNA) began to collapse. Believed to have been supplied to the Libyan strongman as early as last year by his backers [Iran's stooges] in the Gulf, the Russian system was meant to be used as a trump card against Turkey's combat unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) air interdiction operations... Analysis of open source data has estimated that up to 9 Pantsir units were lost in quick succession to UAV strikes during May, with footage of the strikes going viral on social media. To add insult to injury, a tenth Pantsir system was dramatically captured by GNA forces, and to great fanfare paraded through Tripoli as a war trophy. It is speculated that the captured Pantsir's final fate is to be picked apart for intelligence purposes.
