Get a good look at the U.S. Navy Blue Angels while you have a chance. They will be changing to a new plane in a couple of years.

The Pensacola News Journal reports the team plans to switch from the F/A-18 Hornet to the F/A-18E Super Hornet in 2021 to mark the team's 75th anniversary.

"The jet is more powerful, especially at lower altitudes, so we believe that our maneuvering will be more visible to the crowd and more impressive overall," Cmdr. Frank Weisser, a former Blue Angel pilot, told the Journal.

I would rather see Hellcats, Corsairs, Bearcats etc myself.

That would certainly be better than the Skyhawks they used after the F-4’s.

Interesting that two have a shadow on the near wingtip, and two do not.

But all four have vertical stabilizer shadows on their horizontal stabilizers.

The shadows on the two wingtips are not from the other plane’s wing above it. The shape is wrong. It must be from its own or neighbor’s vertical or horizontal stabilizer. It’s from just a sight difference in angle from the sun that two have it and two don’t. The past several years, the Angels have put on a show in Ocean City, MD in June.

When I was a kid we lived on Belleville Lake just across I-94 from Willow Run airport Near Ypsilanti MI. The solo phantom would streek right over our baseball field low enough that the pressure wave shook the trees. That was awesome!

That is why you didn't spend time practicing flying an F-4 without engines. But it looked like a war plane, not a toy! Internet picture since some mover decided all of mine actually belonged to him...

Forced perspective. They’re really close but not THAT close. Lol

About 14 inches apart on average.

After watching the pilot pull a Hawkeye off the top of the waves in a carrier cable failure, we know that it’s not just the Hornet jocks with skills.

Every single one of those pilots have done a rotation before joining the team, and many do back to combat after.

At the Atlantic City Airshow years ago an F4 did 360 turns with afterburners full tilt. The ocean rippled from the exhaust blast, your body vibrated, and the smell of kerosine in the air was worth the whole show.

No it’s not.

All of Our Military Demonstration Teams are available at anytime and ready to go to wherever They are needed around the World. Even the Blue Angels and Thunderbirds Squadrons can be in Combat colors in like 24-48 hours and on the way to any location around the World.

They are also Recruiting Ambassadors as well a Military Ambassadors around the World. When Our Military does a Flyover at a Race or Ball game They do it with precision every time. There is a FAC (Forward Air Controller) calling the shots at every venue. Most people don’t know it but They are participants in a Bombing or Strafing Run or in the case of The Parachute Teams, being Assaulted via Stealth.

Personally I get goosebumps every Flyover at a Race and even if I’m not at the Race sometimes I’m in the holding pattern here at Home or the Kids House and that’s even a little better because it involves multiple passes. I much prefer to have Our Warriors burning fuel and getting more seat time than to have some political jerk(ette) pissing away money on pet projects or overpriced food.

Here’s a bit more Info:

Blue Angels

Thunderbirds

Golden Knights

Black Daggers

Check the Schedule on the Website and next time They do an Air Show I’m sure They would love to have You Watch the Practice. And then You can Thank God that They are on Your side while some poor terrorscumchildrapistgoatlover on the other side of the World is cowering in a hole or a cave contemplating the 84 Virgin thing that he’s not so sure about now as a 1000 pound JDAM says alla-snackbar Punk.

Plus there’s something about the smell of JP-4 wafting through the air...

The super hornet seems to be to the hornet about what the hellcat was to the wildcat.
At least the Hellcat was given a different designation than the Wildcat. The “super hornet” is a different plane than the hornet. The wings are different, the fuselage is different, the engines are different, it was designed with more demanding performance criteria than the hornet and had to be a bigger plane.

But it was also designed with the political constraint that it had to look just like the hornet. And be designated with the same model number, F-18. Because that was the only way to keep the gigabucks of development cost of the entirely new plane off the radar. The government saved so much money by replacing the F-14 with the lightweight F-17 F-18 F-18E/F . . .

</sarcasm>

Yes...up close and personal as a Chicago life guard on Lake Michigan. I was out in my boat and about as close as you could get to their low passes. That was ca 1959 and I believe they were flying F1lF Tigers. In the intervening 600 years I've gotten glimpses of them at various air shows. Have seen the Thunderbirds too.
