Get a good look at the U.S. Navy Blue Angels while you have a chance. They will be changing to a new plane in a couple of years.

The Pensacola News Journal reports the team plans to switch from the F/A-18 Hornet to the F/A-18E Super Hornet in 2021 to mark the team's 75th anniversary.

"The jet is more powerful, especially at lower altitudes, so we believe that our maneuvering will be more visible to the crowd and more impressive overall," Cmdr. Frank Weisser, a former Blue Angel pilot, told the Journal.

I seem to recall a F4 pilot shot down during Vietnam said that with the engines out it had the flying characteristics of a brick.

What modern warplane doesn't?

Yep - many remember the F-4 as ‘the best and baddest” because of the engine sound and smoke but it wasn’t a prime machine.

The McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom...proof that with a big enough engine, even a brick will fly.

Friends at Lockheed told me that due to its performance envelope, the F-16 wants to climb constantly such that flying by wire was pretty much “de rigueur” because only a computer assist could keep it stable.

No.

Even the formations, the flyovers on a stadium at the precise end of the National Anthem are run using the time-on-target programs and combat maneuvers for bombing.

Yeah. They’re “bombing” the stadium when they fly over.

A dangerous, unnecessary waste of fuel, manpower, and assets.

Your misunderstanding is total.

The Blue Angels are a tremendous deployed asset.

If dry cods ruled, America would be a terrible place

I believe they call themselves Aviators, not pilots.

The Blue Angels take pride that they do not wear pressure suits during their shows. Unbelievable! They are the BEST!

Sully was an F-4 jock.
Which is why his landing in the Hudson was done so very well.
When one can fly and land a brick, they can fly anything.

Shadows on second and fourth plane (from top) port wingtip trailing edge different from corresponding location on third plane’s wingtip.
