Sri Lanka has seen mob violence against Christian houses of worship by the majority ethnic Sinhalese (Buddhists), but the bombings today are the first reported large-scale attacks by Muslims against Christians in the country in recent years.

The police had actually sent out warnings about the possibility of Muslim attacks on Christian sites but it seems that they weren’t taken seriously.

I suspect that we’d be seeing more of this if it weren’t for the fact that word is getting out that churches now have armed security.

One church I know has uniformed, armed LEO’s who are members of the congregation about on Sunday morning.

Another one I am aware of has concealed carry permit holders attending, any of which I would trust completely with a loaded firearm.

I have yet to hear a single news report mention the word “Muslim” or “Islamic” with the bombings.
