Lying is the word that I would use to describe this town, says Brian Lamb, in his usual Midwestern deadpan. I dont know if it will ever stop. Its gotten worse rather than getting better, and both sides do it. Youve got to listen very carefully to what theyre saying.
Mr. Lamb, 77, is recalling the genesis of C-Span, the cable TV network he founded in 1979. For 40 years it has aired live footage of Congressyour unfiltered view of government, as one slogan puts it. For the past 30 years, Mr. Lamb has hosted a Sunday night program, interviewing everyone from Richard Nixon to the leftist historian Howard Zinn. Mr. Lamb says he hasnt missed a week since 1989.
That streak will end May 19, with a finale featuring the historian David McCullough. Its just time, Mr. Lamb says. I remember, sadly, when David Brinkley was doing the ABC Sunday show near the end, he shouldnt have been. And he waited too longand people were talking about it.
Born and raised in Lafayette, Ind., Mr. Lamb worked in local television and radio during his school years. Spinning records at WASK in 1963, after graduating from Purdue, he cut in with news. I actually was standing in front of the UPI tickera United Press International wire machinein the back room when the notification of the assassination of John Kennedy came across.

What will he do now to fill his days? Frankly, I dont want to make the stupid statement, spend more time with family, Mr. Lamb says. But my wife deserves more time away than we have now, because I have not been a big vacationer. If he gets bored, never fear: Theres always something on C-Span.

Brian Lamb is probably the best interviewer I’ve ever seen on a radio or television program. Very thoughtful man.
Brian Lamb always impressed me with his sincere curiosity and his objectivity. Although I always felt that his political leanings were somewhat libertarian, he did the best job of anyone on television of being tough but fair with everyone he interviewed. It’s a shame that, to my knowledge, he never moderated a presidential debate.
Been a Brian Lamb fan for about 40 years.
His summation about lying is notable.
Loved watching the C-Span morning show back after the 94 elections. Lamb just was a class act.
And Book TV was always a joy especially when he did the discussions.
I seriously though he was older!
Man specialized in dispassionate interviews of anyone and everyone in DC. Concludes the entire town is dishonest and full of liars and it’s getting worse.
Shameful.
Also, DC leads the nation in per capita trannies, with about 3.5 times the average of Hawaii or California. Also a massive homosexual presence that exceeds California by far.
It is truly a cesspool-
I wish they would expand their coverage to non-cable sources such as Playstation Vue.
Both sides lie. I don’t think so. Republicans may have less of a choice when it comes to lying and they are more likely to get called on it. Democrats HAVE to lie. They’d never win.
Good man, of the old school seldom seen these days. Few on TV are fit to do more than fetch his coffee.
This guy did great work.
He’s top notch. He will be missed. By some.
Both sides....
The democrats, and the massively democrat-biased media.
Carrying water for their democrat socialist pals since the democrat party’s good ol’ KKK days.
Frankly, I dont want to make the stupid statement, spend more time with family, Mr. Lamb says...
Well if it’s not true, good for him for saying it!
Maybe he will spend more time with his family but he sounds like a guy that will still keep himself plenty busy.
I love the honesty.
Book TV was the best!
C-SPAN is great. Thats especially true when Im on it. https://www.c-span.org/video/?427553-2/global-positioning-system-history
Forget Tiger, this is who deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
He interviewed my favorite professor, and husband and I still get a good laugh about it. (Forrest McDonald) It was a memorable interview of a great and humble man.
Paul Ryan was a liar . And all those republicans that ran on repealing Obama care .
I’ve been a fan too. He was a paragon for how interviews ought to be conducted. I never could tell what his political leanings were.
Ryan is a needy, unprincipled, vacuous liar
