Reporters set Twitter abuzz when New York Times White House Correspondent Maggie Haberman noted that the White House was playing the song Edelweiss, suggesting there was significance to the song that the White House did not understand.
Does anyone at that White House understand the significance of that song? https://t.co/IK9h8fOwNj

Users quickly commented that Haberman seemed to think Trump was playing a Nazi song in the White House. The song is from Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammersteins The Sound of Music and is played by Captain von Trapp right before the family flees the Nazi occupation of Austria. The fact that the WH phayed a song from an anti-Nazi musical makes Trump a Nazi.

I have a friend in Japan whose family sings that song. Haberman is a lunatic.
The Japanese people LOVE that song.
Honestly, reporters terrified over that song should be fired. The level of ignorance that displayed is almost beyond belief.

Apparently, some critics thought the song Edelweiss is somehow pro-Nazi. They have undoubtedly never seen The Sound of Music movie or known that the song was a Rogers and Hammerstein song written for the play of the same name that the movie was based on. Edelweiss isn’t even a German song, much less a NAZI one: Edelweiss is actually an American song!
HOWEVER, they probably HAVE seen the The Man in the High Castle Netflix series in which Edelweiss is the theme music in the creepy opening sequence in which Nazi technology is shown defeating the Allies in WWII, which is the premise of the series based on a Phillip K. Dick novel ...
once again, the dying lying leftist fake stream enemedia demonstrates that is nothing more than a bunch of ignorant, arrogant snowflakes ...
These people are reprobates who Roman 1 talks about. They need to he put away.
It’s not ignorance, it’s #TDS, Trump Derangement Syndrome. It’s running rampant post-Mulehead report release.
Well stroked, Mr. President.
Maybe they should have played the new Rammstein song instead...

You have to take into account that Maggie wrote this all by herself instead of collaboratively like she usually does at NYT. An Austrian patriotic folk song performed by the Von Trapp family to annoy occupying Nazi German forces is a Nazi song played by the White House? Amazing ignorance.
This is the Bush years all over again... they always think any Republican president is simultaneously an Evil Sith Lord and a bumbling monkey at the same time.
One of the biggest problems - that gets zero attention - is that our 'elites' aren't very elite. Shallow bimbos and pretentious men do NOT an elite class make...
And Hillary Clinton always has a little bottle of Texas Pete in her purse.
2/3 of what was said about Hitler's likes and dislikes was pure propaganda put out to craft an image.
Maybe that was his favorite flower, maybe it was the most popular flower in an area Hitler wanted to improve his image in.
Even in the man in the high castle the song is one of resistance, not pro-Nazi, from what I understand.
Very true. The ‘elites’ are not what they used to be.
Not the showtunes one the Marines were playing... but that marching one from 1939 is a song about 2 lovers.
