The notion that there is a crisis of child hunger in America is among the many myths that liberals like to propagate to justify ever-more government. Interviewed in London yesterday, Nancy Pelosi cited an oft-used false statistic on the subject.
On Tuesday, MSNBC's Morning Joe played that clip with delight. Mika Brzezinski announced at a commercial break they would play Pelosi "taking on the myth of AOC." Was she taking on myths, or spreading myths? Pelosi said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez won in a "safe" district, and the Democrats need to win swing districts:
PELOSI: When we won this election, it wasn't in districts like mine or Alexandria's—and she's a wonderful member of Congress, I think all of our colleagues will attest. But those are districts that are solidly Democratic. This glass of water would win with a "D" next to its name. But the 43 districts--we won 43, net gain of 40--were right down the middle. Mainstream, hold-the-center, victories. And if we're going to be helping the one of five children in America goes to sleep hungry at night, who lives in poverty in our country, we have to win."

I do believe a lot of children in America go hungry but it is not something the dims are going to be able to do anything about other than make it worse.
Many people are addicts, alcoholics and mentally ill. No matter how much food is available or assistance to buy food- they will not feed their children. Food Cards are often traded for drugs, booze...or sold to buy same.

What is the definition of hungry? They are implying the kids are malnourished or starving. But being the father of four, kids are always hungry. Or at least they think they are. My five year old daughter can eat a meal and then an hour later say she is hungry if she sees something she wants (fruit, cookies, candy, or especially, ice cream).
As usual, dems try to tug at heart strings and use emotion to sway voters. Facts or just fuzzy things that should be avoided at all cost.
Safe to assume the childhood obesity crisis is over?

I saw a thing on the Pittsburgh Penguins a couple years ago. It was a piece showing the Pens players giving back to the community during Christmas. They go into the house of some poor kids to give them gifts the “probably would not receive otherwise”. As they step through the door you see a huge flat screen TV (60+ inches) and a PlayStation and games all over the place. That stuff ain’t cheap.
“Poor” people in this country are some of the richest people on the planet. Everything is relative.
Could be teenaged girls starving themselves wanting to look hot for their selfies. Aside from them, no kid in the US goes anywhere hungry. Free breakfast, lunch and snack at school. Free take home weekend meals from school. Free summer meals from school. And that’s not counting their EBT and SNAP and food banks.
There is a great channel on YouTube...”CharlieBo313” which drives through various Hoods around the country.
The thing that strikes you is, how many nice cars you see in these rundown areas.
So okay, maybe kids are going to bed hungry, thinking about ice cream, cookies and chips! But malnourished? If they are, it's the fault of the parents. Even the poorest of American families have the means to provide their children with nutritious meals (and I bet even the poorest of families somehow have luxuries like cable television, cellphones and designer clothes).
In America, we throw away enough food every day to feed entire other countries.
That was me last night. Was hungry and thought about baking a cake at midnight. Will power prevailed!
There is no reason for anyone to go hungry. Food is cheap. Real food, not that over processed packaged junk. Did a quick grocery run this morning and found all sorts of sales. Filled the cart with meat sales. Boneless beef roast $2.99/lb. Jennie-O breakfast sausage $1/lb. 80% ground chuck $2/lb. Summer squash 89 cents/lb. Tomatoes 74 cents/lb. A 3 lb. bag of onions around $2. Lots of buy one get one or even two free items.

Exactly!! Many of us would be better off if we went to bed hungry.
I consider lies like these little IQ tests. If 1 in 5 American children were going to bed hungry, there would be riots.
When I was in college at ____ University, there were these idiot feminists who would hold signs saying “1 in 5 of ____’s women are survivors of rape.” Common sense and basic numeracy tells you that is BS (and research on my part confirmed that this was a misrepresentation of a study (and said study also had serious methodological problems)), but there were plenty of gullible women and men that went right over to their little booth and picked up pamphlets that no doubt contained other bits of fiction.
One of my favorite "cheap" meals is chicken thighs. About a couple of dollars for a package of four and I sear them in a cast iron skillet about three or four minutes a side and then finish in a 400 degree oven. All you need for seasoning is a little olive oil and pepper. So good.
Typically it is the processed "microwave and serve" foods that rack up the grocery bill. If you need to have a PhD to interpret the ingredients, you are probably eating the wrong foods!

Neal Boortz had a great story once about a picture that appeared on the front page of, I think, the Atlanta newspaper. It was a woman with a sad face and holding her electric bill. She had not made it in line quickly enough to get her help with her bill. In the background was just what you describe... a big screen TV and expensive video game equipment. Neal asked why she didn’t sell that stuff to pay her electric bill.
Of course, the irony was totally lost on the clueless reporter and photographer involved in the story.
Yes, chicken is way cheaper than beef. So is pork but expecting pork to go up what with Chinese hogs having some disease.
Avocados were a whopping $2 due to Mexico getting ticked at us or whatever so passed on them. Ok, onions were only $1.18 3/lb. Cucumbers 38 cents each and Ranch dressing $1.50 16 oz bottle so a nice salad, sauted squash and roast tonight.
My favorite light summer cheap meal is tilapia almondine with a cucumber salad and carrot souffle for $1.50. My favorite hearty meal is a belt loosening Schlotsky’s-type sandwich with a big homemade sourdough bun and garlic sauce. Of course, those starving EBT folk happily pay for one at the drive thru window rather than putting out a little effort to make 4-5 sandwiches at home for the same price.
