The Pope does not have my ear. What about the garbage the nonbelievers preach? Are they exempt from criticism?
You obviously take great pleasure in placing your soul in jeopardy. And what if you are wrong??
If people wish to be sheep there is nothing one can do. If, however, one prefers to think for oneself and not seek safety in numbers, one is free. Nobody has the power to convince me of anything against my own beliefs.
Bear in mind a major difference in Catholicism and Protestantism which is the need or lack thereof for an intermediary. Protestants speak directly to God in their prayers. Catholics believe priests intercede for them. I do not believe Catholics “worship” the crown of thorns. They simply hold it in high esteem because of its relationship with Christ and his agony to forgive OUR sins.
Why do we keep pictures of departed loved ones if not to remind us of them. Widows wear black, they used to wear mementoes like a lock of hair in a locket...some still do. The Cherokees used to carry a piece of cedar in their medicine bag which was a reminder of a loved one lost. They do not “worship” the piece of cedar, yet it has an extremely high value to them. The Pueblo people venerate a deer killed to feed their family for the winter. The deer’s head is accorded a place of honor in the home for three days because the deer gave its life to feed the family through the winter. The family promises that when they pass on their dust will feed the grass which feeds the family of the deer in the future. There are hundreds of things venerated according to one’s beliefs. Who is to say each and every one does not have merit?
It truly was.
A priest who is kind enough to pray for you is a treasure, just like any friend who loves you enough to pray for you. This is not intercession by a priest but Christian charity.
Because we are instructed in the Bible there is but one mediator between God and man Jesus Christ our savior. He is our great High Priest we need no other. We are instructed to boldly approach the throne of Grace. Anything else goes against what is plainly taught in the Bible.
I believe it is wrong to venerate worship or whatever other term you want to use anything but the triune God Father Son and Holy Spirit. Again why give honor veneration or worship to objects when we have the Living God to fellowship with directly?
No; Rome's
"One indeed is the universal Church of the faithful, outside which no one at all is saved, in which the priest himself is the sacrifice, Jesus Christ, whose body and blood are truly contained in the sacrament of the altar under the species of bread and wine; the bread (changed) into His body by the divine power of transubstantiation, and the wine into the blood, so that to accomplish the mystery of unity we ourselves receive from His (nature) what He Himself received from ours."
--Pope Innocent III and Lateran Council IV (A.D. 1215)
If you are NOT a Catholic; you'd best hasten to make thyself one!
the supposition os that God exists. Churches and leaders have said it for millennia. There is the burden of proof.
However the easy way out is to say, it’s matter of faith.
Typically a negative cannot be proven
And just HOW am I doing that?
Lurkers would like to be warned as well.
Wide is the path...
I am not a catholic and will remain a staunch Presbyterian. I do not believe Rome has the absolute last word on salvation. Why not the Greek Orthodox, or the Russian Orthodox, or the followers of Martin Luther, the Baptists, or any of the host of others? It is for each one to find his own road. The Pope has no power over me.
The sandal the sandal!
