President Trump said Monday he will award pro golf great Tiger Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom on the heels of his comeback win at last weekends Masters Tournament.
Spoke to @TigerWoods to congratulate him on the great victory he had in yesterdays @TheMasters, & to inform him that because of his incredible Success & Comeback in Sports (Golf) and, more importantly, LIFE, I will be presenting him with the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM! Trump tweeted.
Woods victory on Sunday gave him his 15th major championship win and his fifth Masters title.
We wouldn’t even know who he was if he wasn’t black.
Medal of Freedom? For what?
He was successfully de-bimboed at Betty Ford?
What do you think about Jimmy Carter giving it to John Wayne?
How about Reagan giving it to Danny Kaye?
One of the reasons it can be given is for "cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
That being said, he broke up a family too. Tiger is an ass, no doubt, but there’s probably more to the story than the public knows.
Yeah, like perhaps he was suffering depression from the loss of a father who he loved, coupled with physical pain from back problems? A combination of those circumstances can effect a persons judgement and character sending them over the edge. Tiger has recovered by remembering who he is and who his father was.
Oops. It was Jimmeh Carter who gave the MoF to the Duke.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded by the President of the United States "for especially meritorious contribution to (1) the security or national interests of the United States, or (2) world peace, or (3) cultural or other significant public or private endeavors."
I think it was for item #3 on the list. How about you?
I hope that Tiger has rebooted his personal life like he did his golf game. But regardless, it is pretty remarkable his comeback. I was thinking it would make a great book some day. Sounds like the Medal of Freedom isn’t unreasonable compared to why others have received it.
No Tiger spoke at Obamas pre inaugural concert and Obama was just so nose in the air full of himself as usual.Obama sees himself as such a great athlete but he is so bad at golf he could play everyday for the rest of his life and still stink. It was a running joke at the DC country clubs.you didnt want to be playing golf if Obama happened to show up
EXACTLY, Mr. President.
Our last POTUS awarded so many deserving of no such thing, the luster has dulled on the prize. Awards mean absolutely nothing unless they were absolutely EARNED and not given.
For sleeping with 200 women at the same time!
Actually Wayne did not dodge the draft.
Here is story of Wayne’s status and what happened to him:
America’s entry into World War II resulted in a deluge of support for the war effort from all sectors of society, and Hollywood was no exception. Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status (classified as 3-A family deferment). Wayne repeatedly wrote to John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford’s military unit, but consistently kept postponing it until after “he finished just one or two pictures”.[1]:212 Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but Republic Studios was emphatically resistant to losing him since he was their only A-list actor under contract. Herbert J. Yates, President of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract,[1]:220 and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne’s further deferment.[1]:213
U.S. National Archives records indicate that Wayne, in fact, did make an application[33] to serve in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), precursor to the modern CIA, and had been accepted within the U.S. Army’s allotted billet to the OSS. William J. Donovan, OSS Commander, wrote Wayne a letter informing him of his acceptance into the Field Photographic Unit, but the letter went to his estranged wife Josephine’s home. She never told him about it. Donovan also issued an OSS Certificate of Service to Wayne.[34]
Couldn’t figure out why all the copies of the NY Post were gone so early today. Thought that must be one heck of a page one.
It was Tiger.
By your standards I guess. What happened to forgiveness? The number if people on this site who practice Hypocrisy and Mendacity are a number of times no better than those on DU.
However, in spite of being put off by the media worship, I always get caught up in his story and usually root for him. I really did not expect this comeback. I have had back surgery myself, and would not dream of subjecting it to the strain that Tiger does with his. I am looking forward to seeing how far Tiger can take this.
Up until Molinari went into the water on 12, I fully expected Molinari to win. I knew Tiger had a chance, but Molinari seldom makes mistakes. I call him "the silent assassin". While everybody gets excited about the other golfers, Molinari methodically just wins tournaments. I thought there was no way Molinari would lose with a final round lead. In fact, I don't think Tiger won so much as Molinari lost. Tiger still has not quite recaptured his old form, but I hope he does.
IMO, Joey Gallo cutting his strikeouts down below 125 while hitting .250 on the year would be medal worthy.
j/k
Anyone on the Rangers pitching staff having an ERA under 5.00 would be medal-worthy.
I have tried. I have clubs in the basement I haven't touched in fifteen years. I believe you are right, they cannot begin to.

I’m not in a position to judge what Woods did or didn’t do. Every one I’ve known in my life has been flawed.
I don’t know what goes on in his head or his heart. Not for me to judge.
I do appreciate excellence in one’s craft and am all for recognizing it.
Once upon I criticized every perceived injustice that was levied at me. A few years ago, I decided to recognize exceptional performance whenever I see it in my daily life. I like it much better this way.
Gold-Diggers say Cha-Ching.
