Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

I don’t watch Fox any longer because of crap like this. Don’t watch the other alphabet channel news either for obvious reasons. I used to watch Fox. Glad I wasn’t watching today after what people have been saying that Cavuto and Shep have been doing. I would have lost a TV in the process after it was decimated by a shotgun blast. If Fox isn’t going to report the news they just need to merge with MSLSD and CNN. I am so sick of these idiots covering up for terrorists. Yes there is a strong possibility that this fire is arson so why not hear these people out who have a lot more knowledge about what’s going on in France than these 2 idiots reporting on Fox. Get them off the air.

Several years ago A church in my community burned. Build in the late 1800, heavy timber. Fire supposedly stared in the basement, and quickly made it up the wall cavity was a straight shot to the roof with massive old wooden beams everywhere. At that point it was a surround and drown operation and try to save the newer attached additions.
As with most church fires, the original building was a total loss. They are usually old, very unlikely to be sprinkled and unless caught and extinguished with a few minutes no FD can throw enough water at it to save.
All I’m hearing is about all the wood. Shouldn’t there have been a fire plan in place for this kind of event?? Seems significant the most iconic church in Europe would go up in flames during Holy Week.

Maybe the ghost of Jacques de Molay was involved. King Philip IV of France had him burned upon a scaffold on an island in the River Seine in front of Notre Dame de Paris in March, 1314.
Just heard a really smart caller to a talk show. He knew his stuff. He said the place was a perfect fire trap without modern protections. So, it’s natural to suspect foul play, but an accident is very possible as well.
NOTRE DAME expert Alastair Bruce has explained exactly why the fire behaved so fiercely and spread to other parts of the cathedral quickly.
“That wood would have been drying for centuries. Over that would have been the lead that held the roof and the rain out....Once the wood was alight and the lead was molting it is now presumed that it would burn for a long period of time I am sure.”
“The two towers are extremely old as they were completed in the 1200 and 1300s. They are all on wooden frames when you imagine about how this fire has moved.
“What I think is interesting is that those towers would have had substantial holding walls on all four sides and that could have prevented the fire from getting into them in the begining.
“All these old buildings depend upon thrust and lean going in many different directions and if you suddenly take out the main joist from that massive roof.“I should imagine that the whole thing would be in some danger.”
ISIS has also said (a few years back) that St. Peter’s basilica will be razed to the ground. Probably has not happened for a couple of reasons: pope is their ally in that he helps (inadvertently or otherwise) advance jihad, and security, contrary to what one might assume, is top notch at Vatican.
When he was talking about it, and nobody had heard about it in the room, he was saying things like a fire, possibly due to renovations, we don't know.
Then he said something like “It appears that there is no stopping it until it has burned to the ground.” And there was an audible gasp from the crowd as they realized the significance of the fire.
Interesting, thanks. Well... if they've been doing renovations, I suppose those could be just a couple of the workers? It's kind of inconclusive.
Maybe one of the "workers" intentionally set the fire? This picture really doesn't prove anything.
Look at all the graffiti on the booksellers' booths in the lower left. I *never* saw that during my several trips to Paris years ago. Geez, it seems all of western civilization is going to hell these days...

I agree. About the only way to send a message to them that they will understand is a financial one. Fox has become a muslim submissive network since Murdochs kids took over and they merged with Disney.

True, cannot draw any conclusions from these images, but perhaps there’s a bread crumb or two.
I worked in a building (3 stories) that had been built in 1870. It had a tremendous amount of large wood beams, plus wood floors, etc...
There was no question in my mind that if it caught, there would no stopping it.
Cathedral has been using open flames since the beginning, suddenly burns down day after Palm Sunday and during a rash of Church fires caused by arson around Paris.
