One person is dead and 15 have been taken to the hospital after an explosion and collapse
near Brightleaf Square in downtown Durham on Wednesday morning, a police spokesman said.
Crews responded to a reported gas leak and were actively fighting fire, according
to a post from the City of Durham.

in which state?
North Carolina
Looks like Beirut.
You know, that is one of my pet peeves with message boards on the internet, when a poster doesn't give the audience a more-specific clue about the location of something, in this case the state. There's some different "Durhams" all over the world; it'd be nice to know which one this is.
Other than for obvious places such as New York City or London or Shanghai or Calcutta, it'd be nice if posters added that information. After all, there's like, fifty "Springfield"s in the fifty states of the United States, yet when geocentrists from Massachusetts post a story from there, they act as if everybody and anyone should know which "Springfield" it is.
Working just north of downtown, the explosion shook our building. Looked out our 6th floor window to see the plume of smoke.
As I understand it, the building to the left with the garage door and partially collapsed roof (now totally collapsed) housed some guy’s Porsche collection.
115 NORTH DUKE ST. - STUDEBAKER BUILDING
It once housed the Durham Ice Cream Company, Pashcall's Bakery, and a Studebaker dealership
A contractor was burrowing under a sidewalk near 115 N. Duke St. when a gas leak erupted, police said. Durham firefighters and Dominion Energy crews responded to the scene and then an explosion happened at 10:37 a.m., said Durham Police spokesman Wil Glenn.
Witnesses nearby reported hearing and feeling a loud explosion.
Notice the PNC gas truck. It was there before the explosion. Hearing that the gas leak was first called in around 7:15 this morning and the they were not allowing people into the buildings. Also, the blurry spot to the left of the guy in the blue shirt is apparently a firefighter who was severely injured.
Wow! Total destruction.
Keyword has North Dakota?
Yes. I screwed that up and asked the mods to remove that.
I know some of the people that worked in that building. It was a mental health clinic. No idea how they are or if they got out.
I understand 1 killed and 18 injured.
