She is a disgrace. No. A desecration. Those who gave their lives to defeat the Germans in WW2 died for nothng. Germany calls the shots
At this rate it will take them 1000 years to leave the EU, just what Hitler wanted.
The only problem is the railroad car won't hold all their staff.
Ping
None of the three of them has any skin in the game for the future. Not one. 0-3.
I hate this. Giving May an extension will only damage the EU - with never-ending chaos, deadlines etc and British MEPs being a pain in the neck.
I hope Macron sticks to his promise to veto any longer extension.
My worry is that Theresa May will lie again and promise that she will do something and parliament will do something and that’s why she needs another month. and that will be a lie and she’ll be back asking for more time.
Or a longer extension is still painful.
No, to beg their permission to stay a bit longer.
haven’t you been reading? The UK said it was leaving on March 29, 2019. Then it couldn’t make up it’s mind and begged for an extension to June 30 — the EU leaders (all 27 of whom have to unanimous agree) said “no, you get until April 12 if you don’t agree the withdrawal or May 7 if you agree. Or you can leave now, with no deal”
But May begged for until April 12. Now it looks like she can’t deliver and she’s begging for more time again.
It’s about getting Macron to NOT veto the “let Britain and NI stay a bit longer”
This is all on the UK begging to stay a bit longer.
1. The EU parliament - analogous to US congress, these are directly elected members directly elected by the people - smaller states have smaller MEPS, while the UK has 73.
2. The EU council of nations - analogous to the US Senate. these are the heads of government like Merkel, May, Macron, Macierewicz etc. They have a veto option over decisions
This is horrifying. The UK is going back on its word again and again.
The UK is trying to make the EU dance to its tunes and let it delay its exit.
The UK promised to leave on the 29th of March and is reneging on its promise.
Correct, this sick woman just wants to stay in power and complete her premiership.
The EU should tell May to stick it and that she needs to keep to the promise the UK made and leave.
I'm sure she has done everything to screw the Brits.
oh the Brits didn’t need any help screwing themselves
1. From not deciding back in 2016 what type of Brexit they wanted (perhaps a second referendum on TYPE of Brexit wanted)
2. To calling unnecessary elections in 2017 leading to a wasted 3 months and a coalition government that needed the DUP to survive
3. To not figuring out before hand what to do about the NI-RoI border (the Good Friday agreement was about no border and the UK can’t renege on that deal)
4. To putting a clutz (David Davis) in charge of the negotiations
5. To not planning for no-deal Brexit from 2017 onwards
6. To persisting at a rejected deal three deal
The UK has well and good made a right pig’s breakfast of it and now their chaos could spread to the EU if they stay on beyond May 22
Theresa May has begging down to a science.
The stench in that room...
She did so, repeatedly, in the mistaken belief that the interests of the individual EU states would trump their loyalty to a common EU position on Brexit. She was politely repulsed - the solidarity of the member states over Brexit (in complete contrast to the internal confusion of the UK) has been one of the more remarkable features of the Brexit saga.
The baron ones.
Macron’s just there for window dressing.
You missed the biggie: Joining the EU in the first place.
The alternatives commonwealth market was perceived to be less sophisticated, less demanding than EECs more developed market next door. EFTA performance was inferior to EECs.
The founding members of EEC outperformed UK persistently between 1945 and 1972
In 1945, UKs GDP per capita was 90% larger than average GDP per capita of the six founding members (the war damaged EU6 economies much more)
By 1950, when UK declined to join European Coal and Steel community, post-war catch up was nearly over EU6 average GDP per capita was 28% smaller.
In 1957, when treaty of Rome was signed, EU6 average was 15% behind.
By 1961, when UK first opened discussion to join EEC, the difference was 10% (UKs higher)
In 1967, when UK applied to join the second time, the difference had shrunk to 6% (UKs higher)
In 1973, when UK finally joined (3rd attempt), EU6 average was 7% larger
The chart below plots the percentage difference between UK GDP per capita and EU6 (when the lines are above zero, UKs GDP per capita was higher)
you can read it here
But forget about the past, the UK needs to leave now with a no deal
The EU was never really about economics.
It was about control.
Either the UK wants self-determination. Or it doesnt.
If it doesn’t, it’s no skin off my nose.
But I’d gladly approve taking in any freedom-loving, hard-working, law-abiding UK citizens who’ve had enough and would like to become American citizens.
Those refugees I’d accept in a heartbeat.
