On Monday, Goucher College journalism professor and longtime Baltimore Sun media critic David Zurawik accused President Donald Trump of using a dictator tactic telling so many lies as to exhaust the free press into silence.
"He says something thats really offensive about immigrants, and then Tucker Carlson says immigration makes us a dirtier country," Zurawik said. "That is really destructive to American life."
He urged journalists to fight back. "We have to denounce it, but every time we do that, every time we chase that down, he is setting the agenda for what we cover, and none of us, I dont think any of us have figured that out yet," the professor argued.
Yet the free press can't stop fact-checking Trump either, Zurawik argued. "He drives us to exhaustion. If we quit fact-checking him, if we accept this, he wins. Thats the way dictators win, they drive the free press almost to exhaustion with this."

8 Apr: Politifact: Democrats push misleading tweet on Donald Trump, asylum seekers
By Miriam Valverde
Democratic presidential candidates, liberal pundits and other critics of President Donald Trumps immigration policies amplified a misleading tweet claiming that Trump said asylum seekers are “animals” and not people.
Heres what they left out in the process: the fact that Trump wasnt clearly talking about asylum seekers. His “animals” comment came nearly a year ago during a White House discussion on MS-13 gang members...
It started April 5, when the Twitter account @markmobility, owned by a man named Mark Elliott, tweeted a 47-second video of Trump...
PolitiFact reached out to @markmobility on Twitter on April 8, saying we were fact-checking his tweet and requesting his contact information so we could send a query. The biography section of his Twitter page does not identify his occupation or other contact information (it links to the New York Times). We separately sent a detailed email and voicemail to a Mark Elliott, who appears to be the person behind @markmobility. We did not hear back.
Less than an hour after our voicemail and email noting the context of Trumps comment, @markmobility deleted the April 5 tweet and posted a new clarifying tweet.
“I have learned that Trump’s comments were in response to a specific question about MS-13 members and not about asylum seekers more broadly. I have chosen to delete the tweet, but am copying it here. My apologies for not being more accurate,” @markmobilitys tweet said...

Poor fact changers.
Maybe if CNN and its allies would putting out “FAKE NEWS” they would be in error so much. Then they wouldn’t ha Vento fact check over and over again.
Let’s suggest (to Trump) that a true-lies czar be hired and for Trump to feed those factual-lies factoids be fed to the liberal media, at least one per day.
Have a media plant who will brand the Trump factual-lies as “Trumpisms”, and keep them busy and away from their REAL fabrications against Trump.
Fact checkers, or lying media a$$holes?
This guy must hold the Goucher Marx Chair in Fake Journalism.
Sniveling little snowflake isn’t he.
It’s exhausting work to take true statements out of context and twist them into “Pinocchios”...
Trump Is Driving the Poor Fact-Checkers ‘to Exhaustion’
Maybe the ‘fact checkers’ should start investigation the BS coming out of places like CNN...
And they didn’t need ‘fact-checkers’ in Obama’s term.
Every word he said was taken as Gospel-truth, no matter HOW stupid.
Tee hee!
Imagine what CNN would say if President Trump said that he had visited 57 STATES .
If they ever fact-checked their own swill, theyd sue for over-work to forestall dying from exhaustion.
