April 8 (UPI) -- Michael E. Busch, Maryland's longest-serving House speaker, died of pneumonia Sunday at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. He was 72.
Busch told legislators about his illness last week and warned that he could miss the remainder of the General Assembly. Physicians diagnosed pneumonia during a follow-up treatment for a liver transplant in 2017.

With MD politics this was to be a life time job as speaker. He left office 10 to 15 years early.
I was going to say 72 is relatively young nowadays but if he had a liver transplant, his health/strength must not have been that good for a while. R.I.P.
RIP.
Boy, the closer I get to the 60’s, 72 does not seem THAT far away.
He must have “lived” well.
When you have any kind of organ transplant (liver, kidney, heart, lung, etc) you're on immunosupressants for the rest of your life. That would make you more susceptible to things like pneumonia and would make those things harder to treat.
Keep the Faith. The closer I get to the 80s, 72 seems like a dot in the side view mirror.
It's all good. We all get our version of life's shit sandwich, it's up to us handle it as best we can.
I guess he will miss the rest of the session...RIP and prayers to his family
