Bernie Sanders: Felons should be able to vote while in prison
Fox News ^ | Apr. 8, 2019 | Paul Steinhauser

Sen. Bernie Sanders has long fought to restore voting rights for felons who’ve completed their prison sentences.

Now the presidential candidate wants to go a big step further – arguing that those currently behind bars should be able to vote too.

Asked on the campaign trail in Muscatine, Iowa on Saturday if those imprisoned should have the right to vote, the independent senator from Vermont who’s making his second straight bid for the Democratic nomination answered: "I think that is absolutely the direction we should go.”

"In my state, what we do is separate. You’re paying a price, you committed a crime, you’re in jail. That's bad," Sanders explained. "But you’re still living in American society and you have a right to vote. I believe in that, yes, I do.”

Only if they vote Democrat Socialist.

If you look at the incarceration rate in his country blacks make up about 60% of those incarserated . Whites and Hispanics make up about 40 %.

Since blacks vote overwhelmingly for socialists , something on the order of 85% , this will add more voters to the socialist (dem) voting roles.

That is the name of this game , and also why unlimited illegal entry is encouraged with the prospect of citizenship for the illegal immigrants who will also vote overwhelmingly socialist. - tom

No.

In some counties, prisoners given a vote could literally vote to release themselves from prison and win such an "election".

And felons who do vote (where that is allowed after completing sentence and probation) vote 90% for Democrats. Which is the entire point of such proposals anyway.

No. And kick any politician who supports such ideas straight to the curb.

I agree. I also think that they need to be taught a trade of some sort while roting away. It is so dumb for anyone less then life in prison to sit there doing nothing for the time. If we could change these people’s circumstances, we may see less back in jail. Voting however, not until completely cleared of all punishment including fines.

I fear for our country’s future. I look back at 1987 the year I graduated high school and today and the changes are terrible. Having president trump is stopping the destruction slower. But with judges stopping his every move. It sure is discouraging. I can’t imagine this place in 2049. Gives me the shivers thinking about it. I hope I’m dead. Drastic but honest. I fear so much for my kids and future grandkids.

And, the way the dims pander to blax, it won’t be long before a barry o’bummer campaigns for potus, promising to commute all sentences to time served. And liberal pukes across the country will go along, cause that’s what they do.

I believe that a Felon AFTER completing all of his penalties should be able to regain the right to vote with the exceptions of murder, rape or molestation . I see those crimes as beyond redemption . I state this as a felonious label has been applied haphazardly over the years , for example ; I had paid a speeding ticket in Washington state that I received while at Ft. Lewis Army base (active duty.)Two years later with a drivers license from Massachusetts and an “in state” license from the state of Florida I ran a light (trying to catch the yellow) and was informed that my license was suspended in Washington state where I never had one? While obtaining the paperwork to prove that it was a error I still drove (self-employed.) So long story short Floriida had changed driving on a “suspended license 2nd infraction to a FELONY and tried to prosecute me as such with all the other penalties applied as say a rapist or murderer would get. I proved my innocence after 7 months and all that was said was OOPS sorry guy . I asked if I could recoup any of the money lost for towed vehicle and time and money spent for pointing out their error and what response did I get?......crickets. I even had to pay for filing a paper to expunge the felony that was so easily applied . A felonious charge is so overused for charging persons on items that are not felonious ....If I am looking at this in the wrong light please tell me .

“In some places this means that thugs could effectively seize control of local or county government.”

I’m not for it, but wouldn’t they vote absentee ballot from their pre incarceration address?

I know that in Illinois a lot of state prisons are located in rural areas. A large prison might well have more inmates than the local (free) population. Imagine inmates deciding who will be mayor of your town or who the next sheriff will be. This idea, like eliminating the electoral college is to guarantee democrat dominance in both national and local politics.
