At a meeting of the African American Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Jim Kenney had his I can see Russia from my house moment.
In a room full of Black business owners, contractors, and city employees, Kenney told us what white men in power have said forever except this time, he had his very own twist. ---SNIP---
We have a hard time hiring Black people for these jobs because theyre so super-talented and too overqualified that they choose to run after the private sector instead. They dont want to take the pay cut.

Maybe not enough 10%ers

The black/white experiment has failed....
The ONLY thing that makes sense is they’re having trouble finding ANYONE besides the best and brightest, which probably ain’t 1000s, to hire.
The best and brightest are headed to wall street etc
the few that make it
I wish they all did.
hell i wish blacks were in the top 3 on education and family structure
They think we want them to do badly.
I either want them to do well or i give them no thought whatsoever.
Sarah Palin never said that. Tina Fey, in one of her "hilarious" SNL skits, said it. And it has been falsely attributed to Palin ever since.
What Palin said was "There are places in Alaska where you can see Russia." She's right. There are.
The disassociation with reality in this country is becoming endemic.
Perhaps Mr. Owens will come to realize that MOST PEOPLE, of whatever melanin pigmentation, prioritize pay over public service. And hopefully, he will also realize that more diversity hires will simply paper over any quality problems that the City of Philadelphia has.
Of course most FReepers understand the context of Sarah Palin’s remark, and that actually (on a clear day) it is possible to see Russian territory from American territory with the naked eye...
Little (US) and Big (Russian) Diomede Islands in the Bering Sea are about 2 miles apart...Her point was totally ignored for a gag line...Hard to believe The Leftards being that petty! Not!
As a retired firefighter I can tell you the biggest obstacle we faced in hiring minority candidates was NOT over-qualification...Ignoring set-asides and racial hiring quotas, it was very difficult to find qualified candidates who could pass the drug test and the criminal background checks...
Wow, somewhere an island just flipped over.
The assumption by the Left is there are just as many qualified black people as there are people in other groups.
The fact that there assumption is not true must never be brought up.
It is an article of faith.
He’s not giving the unqualified blacks any credit at all for their diversity woes. That’s just wrong.
“...difficult to find qualified candidates who could pass
the drug test and the criminal background checks...”
-
This is now the norm in all hiring situations and in all races.
(...plus after hiring, finding out new your hire
can’t be relied on to show up for work on time.)
Interesting story,,
That’s depressing. It makes me glad I live back in the woods, you see.
“The fact that there assumption is not true must never be brought up.
It is an article of faith”.
You are correct. The Truth to the Left is whatever they wish it to be.
Interesting article. I would add that in today’s world intellectuals like Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Ben Carson, Condi Rice , Shelby Steele and Walter Williams would never get employment consideration in blue administrations because of their political views.
LOL!
In January 2008, just before the Great Recession started, 25% of college educated Blacks were employed by a government agency or a government contractor.
I have searched for a more recent number, but I can’t find one.
I would be very surprised if that number is now below 25%.
I would not be surprised at all if that number is now more than 25%.
Overqualified people of all colors do not have a problem passing drug tests.
This is just another excuse for black culture .
...Interesting story,,
Yup
This is why they don’t educate their slaves (then or now.)
