President Donald Trump says he's pulling the nomination of his pick to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement... Longtime border official (and the Acting Director) Ron Vitiello appeared to be cruising toward confirmation... The president on Friday confirmed he had pulled the nomination, even as he called Vitiello a "good man." "But we're going in a tougher direction. We want to go in a tougher direction," he said.

Will Trump u-turn on this, too, in about a week?
I am glad that President Trump is not afraid to make a U-turn if a nominee demonstrates that he is not willing to go in the direction that he wants.
Works for me!
Yet in his roundtable just now he talked about how we couldn’t and don’t want to be as tough as other countries are with their walls, then asked border patrol how they could defend the border without being so tough.
He also said it would be about another two years to get 400 miles of wall built, which would “about do it”. (And of course only be completed at that rate if he is reelected.
Sheriff Joe is probably too old but it would be fun to watch the reaction by the bedwetters.
I was referencing Trumps u-turn on closing the border
We need much more employer enforcement.
If they can’t work or get benefits, they’ll go home.
U-turn is fake news.
U-turn is fake news.
You mean Trump didnt threaten last week to close the border this week if Mexico didnt halt the caravans? And then Trump changed two days ago to giving Mexico a year to comply? You mean thats fake news? Funny, I watched him make both statements, was I hallucinating?
You are fake news and concern troll.
Did he sign anything saying Mexico had a year???
He can, if he wants, close the border tomorrow...
I believe he is doing this now that it is easier to get nominees through the confirmation process. Instead of nominating a limp wristed pansy that the left will obstruct, he can now nominate a strong, results oriented person who will make liberal heads explode.
“He also said it would be about another two years to get 400 miles of wall built, which would about do it”
That is basically the situation. If we can button up the Rio Grande Valley and the border cities with effective new wall system, it will make a dramatic improvement in controlling our border. He has been targeting the most important miles first.
Being able to deter and delay with barrier, and detect and intercept with technology and people, is the physical problem. The separate policy and legal issues about what to do with them once caught, is a whole different problem. That is probably why the President is looking for a real hard ICE Director.
Put Ann Coulter in the position.
He made a U-Turn, an incredibly big one. Last week he was explicit about closing the border this week if Mexico didnt immediately stop all illegal traffic. His words, his tweets. It is gracious to say u-turn.
“I believe he is doing this now that it is easier to get nominees through the confirmation process.”
Could well be. The nominations logjam in the Senate just broke this week, with Republicans changing the rules to speed things up.
It is also possible that there may have been some disagreements about how to crack down on the current surge at the border, and Vitiello was against some of the proposed measures.
He did do that and I wasn't too crazy about it when I heard however I am trusting and hoping that on the back side (not public) that Mexico is making promises to alleviate the situation. Remember, Mexico does not want that border closed either. We don't want the border closed (well..I do but as a nation I suppose we don't) so have a little bit of faith in the President. I honestly believe he is doing the best possible and don't believe anyone else could have gotten what he has. Sometimes he has to make threats in order to get there.
Trump is headed toward impeachment or the exercise of Section 4 of the 25th Amendment. This type of indecisive behavior (pulling nominees) is playing into the hands of those who see him as irrational.
He has 100% of the Democrat votes in the House and Senate against him. Conviction in today’s Senate will require 20 Republican votes. Twelve Senators stood against Trump on the wall. It will take only 8 additional Senators to remove him. Actually 7 because McConnell will likely vote for conviction if there are 19 other votes to convict.
Waivering on ICE is one thing. Consider also Secretary of State Mattis resigned in December 2018. There is still no nominee for what is arguably one of the three most critical cabinet positions (Defense, State, and Attorney General). The Mattis resignation was no surprise. There should have been a nominee for his replacement within 2 weeks, not nearly 4 months.
Consider also his wavering on border enforcement. Consider he keeps talking about releasing FISA information, but does nothing. These behaviors are not those of a strong and effective leader.
One other factor. His trade policies are unpopular in Congress and with big business. No doubt those who wield economic power in this country are telling Congress to “fix” the trade situation. Notice there has been no progress toward passing the new NAFTA. Also notice Trump keeps “delaying” imposition of the strong tariffs against China.
If Trump continues to waver and appear indecisive, plus continue to make public statements that are untrue and appear to be the result of memory failure (claiming his father was born in Germany), VP Pence and a majority of the cabinet may certify to Congress that Trump is mentally and emotionally unable to discharge the duties of office. Back that up with a statement signed by Trump’s physician and he will be “temporarily” removed. However, Congress can then permanently remove his with a 2/3 vote of both houses. If Pence and the cabinet exercise Section 3 of the 25th amendment, Congress will be quick to come up with the 2/3 vote to permanently remove him. Remember, Kevin McCarthy, the GOP minority leader in the House, is a member of the Paul Ryan RINO establishment. When push comes to shove, the moderates will vote with the party to do the bidding of their donors.
“Put Ann Coulter in the position.”
...Then fire her the next day for not having done a damn thing to fix the problem, despite all her talk.
