I know there are many here who are animal rightists who believe this is a crime.

I do not.

I believe we should be able to eat our pets, as well.

if you consider cows you raise or whatever, pets, before the slaughter, I agree too.

As for this fish thing...it’s absurd.

But anyone tries to harm my little cat buddy, they wont see tomorrow.

That’s a promise.

What’s next? Jail time for forgetting to water your plants when you go on vacation?

He could have just swallowed it.

Or, flushed, and given it a chance.

Personally, I can’t stand it when people don’t take care of their house plants.

Flashback to scout camp when some of the guys caught a coral snake and took it to the nature lodge. Those people put it in an aquarium next to a window and the afternoon sun baked it to death.

Why didn’t he take it to a pet shop and give it to them free?

Tired of your pet fish. FLUSH goes the toilet and all evidence goes down the drain. Case closed.

As an animal lover; I don’t want to see any creature abused or neglected but this is taking it too far.

I had tilapia for lunch. I guess I should feel guilty now.

They are kicking this guy hard while he’s down. He would have been better off feeding the Oscar to a local cat after cutting the head off.

The only counterpoint I have to the mostly justified ridicule of this action is that I personally believe that anyone who is deliberately cruel to an animal bears watching for signs of the sort of sociopathy that leads to harming humans.

It’s one thing to raise an animal for food, it’s something else to hurt one for pleasure, even if it is one’s ‘property’ I certainly would never hire, rent to or associate with someone who abused an animal.

Maybe you have to terminate its life, but the sort of person would cause unneeded pain is not the sort of person I care to see continue breathing. If you can’t take CARE of it, and can’t give it away, at least dispatch it mercifully.

And these same people think it’s ok to abort a human being under a certain age because they consider him/her a tadpole. Oh wait.. Update.. Now they consider a fully formed baby out of the womb less important than a tadpole.

Yes, you are perfectly entitled to eat that cow or whatever, but you are not entitled to subject it to torture or gross neglect such as leaving it to starve.

I say this as someone who eats cow on a daily basis, and fish for that matter.

This guy had sole control of his animal and he abused it by neglect. Not acceptable.

My daughter and her roommate lived next to a guy in an apartment in Honolulu. He walked away from his apartment and never came back — and he left his poor kitty behind! My daughter and her roommate got the super to open the place and they took in the kitty and cared for it. It was a real sweet, good natured cat. Roommate took the kitty with her back to Boston when she left Hawaii.

What an awful thing to do, abandoning a kitty in an apartment. Fortunately they heard the kitty and did the right thing.

I just checked online. That fish is worth $10-15, maybe a little more depending on the size.

His court costs will be 10x that.
This seems unfair.
