Actually, that would be more of a clandestine operation by Army Delta, Navy SEALs and CIA combat operatives. Mexico doesn't like it, screw them in so many ways.
Maybe it is a consumer problem as well. If people here stopped consuming the drugs the supply would dry up. But I do not see that happening short of God intervening.
In the meantime the damage from the open border may not be repairable.
Coupled with Venezuela, we may have WW III on our doorstep.

you can’t close the border without a wall. Closing the border still leaves open hundreds of miles in which crossings will continue.
The rhetoric the last 5 days is usually referred to as propaganda to gin up the base. maybe to pressure mexico, but the Mexican government for whatever they are is not as stupid, as some here, who believed Trumps rabble rousing and bluff.
The US can’t stop the flow of drugs into New York City.
The US can’t even stop the flow of people across the Mexican border.
Why should Mexico be expected to be able to stop the flow of drugs?
The war on drugs needs to come to an end.
Like alcohol prohibition, recreational drug prohibition doesn’t work.
If you think Mexico can stop drugs, you will joining the bunch of fools who think domestic gun prohibition will work.
The demand for recreational drugs needs to be met by FDA supervised production of relatively safe forms of drug solution intoxicates along the lines of the original cola beverage.

You make sense, but I disagree in part. It depends on how long the border is closed as to affect our GDP. People forget that Trump shut down the entry ports for just ONE weekend and Mexico capitulated to keep asylum seekers on their side.
I believe a full week would not cause a recession. We have many ports for trade and transfer of goods. Since we are Mexico's biggest trading partner, it would be devastating to them if their trucks couldn't enter. Pres. Trump WILL lose 2020 if he doesn't stop the migrant caravans that are coming and building.
As for his change of rhetoric about Mexico and drug cartels and a year warning (WTF?), I think someone stole his balls.

Yeah, this move baffles me as well. It looks entirely like kicking the can down the road. His base will not like this. This gives the appearance of waffling ineffectiveness. Like he doesn’t have the ability to live up to his words. It’s weakness...or it certainly appears to be.
Perhaps he simply isn’t worried about the Democrats being able to get a candidate that can challenge him...maybe Pete Buttboy doesn’t scare him much.
But he’s in more danger of bleeding support here than perhaps he understands. There is no emergency if you can wait a year to do something. But the emergency was so Pre-Mueller Nothingburger I guess.
If it is true that our nation’s economic health now depends entirely on acquiescence to the will and ways of Mexico, if that is so, then are a lost and doomed nation anyway. If this is so, we will simply have no other future than to become them.
He thinks by making it a 2020 issue that it will seal his re election..what would have sealed his re election is if the wall was built, which is my other question, how much of the wall has been built, 10 percent, 20 percent, everyone says different so I want to know
Here’s the problem with these political calculations, the all run down the clock on his presidency. He becomes a lame duck the moment he takes his second oath of office. His first term has been eaten up by the Deep State and obstruction from the rest of government (even his own party) on the two major issues (to his base) of immigration/migration and Deep State political corruption.
The moment he becomes a lame duck, the forces of obstruction can simply kick in again and we find ourselves approaching 2024 with the problems we wanted solved in 2017 worse than they were, or certainly no better. He will have accomplished much on improving the economy in the short term. But that can be easily undone, and likely will be undone, in the blink of an eye. Kicking the can down the road for politics is not a winning move for term limited administration.
Trump got a visit from 2 Texas congress critters yesterday. They told him closing the border would devastate Texas, not just Mexico. There was a WH statement on it posted somewhere, but it did not mention who they were. I am betting Cruz was one of them.
Maybe he thinks Republicans will take back Congress and he can get the wall and health care..thing is, when he was elected he had the Senate and Congress and nothing was done regarding the wall, what makes 2020 different
