President Trump on Tuesday incorrectly said his father was from Germany while expressing frustration about the countrys payments toward NATO.
"Germany, honestly, is not paying their fair share," Trump said at the White House before noting that he has "great respect" for German Chancellor Angela Merkel and "great respect for the country."
"My father is German, was German," he continued. "Born in a very wonderful place in Germany, so I have a great feeling for Germany."
The Washington Post said it as least the third time Trump has made this particular claim about his father, Fred Trump, who was born in New York City in 1905.
Trumps grandfather, Friedrich Trump, was born in Germany and emigrated to the U.S. in 1885, according to a report from the Post in 2016.
After finding success in the U.S., Friedrich Trump attempted to resettle in Germany, according to The Associated Press. But the Post added that he was expelled in 1905, apparently for emigrating illegally. He returned with his wife to the U.S. when she was pregnant with Fred Trump.
Trump made the claims about his father multiple times in 2018 while discussing relations between the U.S. and European countries.
"Dont forget both of my parents were born in EU sectors, OK?" Trump said in an interview last July. "My mother was Scotland. My father was Germany."
Trump's mother, Mary Anne MacLeod, was born in Scotland.
The Post noted that Trump also mentioned his father being from Germany while attending the NATO summit in Brussels.
"I have great respect for Germany; my father is from Germany," Trump said. "Both of my parents are from the EU, despite the fact they dont treat us well on trade."
Oh my God! This is almost as bad as his having two scoops of ice cream with his pie! He’s doomed.
At least knows where his dad was born!
See my post at 18.
Clan MacLeod, there can be but one.
President Trump can wear both Lederhosen and a Kilt. Wunderbar und Hoot, mon.
He’s almost as senile as Nancy Pelosi. :D
I have to confess, though, that this is odd. I certainly know the difference between my father and grandfather. And I’m 65.
O M G !!!
We’re all gonna die!
Birthers would say this makes Donald Trump ineligible.
Just don’t mention where Obama was born.
THAT’S IT IMPEACH HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From the article his father was conceived in Germany. That is the place his father began his life.
I dunno.
Can ya?
Let's see Trump's father's birth certificate!

Pretty sure President Trump is trolling again. "Hey look over there! Something shiny!"
And even if he's not, a President Trump with dementia is still a more capable leader than anyone the Democrats can field.
Every single unintentional misstatement or joke by Trump becomes an "Oh my God, can you believe this idiot!!!" article by some Leftist within 30 minutes.
If they had held Obama to the same standard he wouldn't have lasted two months in office.
Wow. We’ve got him now.
I vaguely recall the same - that some countries call under the age of one, the first year, one year old. So some who is 18 would be 17 in the USA.
