The United States has halted delivery of equipment related to the stealthy F-35 fighter aircraft to Turkey, sources familiar with the situation said, marking the first concrete U.S. step to block delivery of the jet to the NATO ally in light of Ankaras planned purchase of a Russian missile defense system.

Good. Now it’s up to Turkey to decide whether they want to be our friend or not, with all the consequences.
Methinks they’ve already decided and we’re responding accordingly.
I’d like to know why we are selling anyone F-35 aircraft. Seems like we should hold that advantage to ourselves.
The Swamp is a deep and dark place.
What kind of idiot would sell an F35 to Turkey?
Hillary would have OK’d it, in return for a couple of $B to the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
Wouldn’t it be nice to practice with both the missile system guidance and the F-35? Knowledge of the plane’s specific vulnerabilities would be valuable, and well rewarded by the highest bidder.
Erdogan sux more than AOC, if that’s possible.
Without laughing, can someone tell me who decides this?
The president, on his own?
Does he need congress?
What if a company like Boeing is dealing directly with the government?
Dealing directly with the Turkish government I mean.
I doubt we are selling anything we dont already have something better that can blow it out of the sky if we need to.
Among the anti-American crowd, there are theories about how foreign arms sales underpin* the American economy to an extent that it would collapse without those sales. Erdogan is about to discover that the US economy will survive and prosper without F-35 sales to Turkey. If the F-35 is definitely not being exported to Turkey, the Greek Air Force, an F-35 partner, will be breaking out the champagne.
* At about 0.25% of national output in a typical year, total arms sales are not particularly significant for the American economy. Arms sales to Turkey, specifically, are an insignificant part of an insignificant number.
Because that’s how the arms industry works. We don’t buy enough replacements to keep various production lines open after the initial order is filled. If we want to keep making them we have to sell some elsewhere. That’s true for all arms manufacturing everywhere.
I was in Turkey in the 80s. I never thought the Turks were our friends, even that far back.
I doubt we sell anything that can’t blow itself out of the sky remotely.
Thanks Java4Jay. Erdogan will try to screw everyone in Turkey with election "recounts".

Makes sense to me.
Many congressmen hold the same viewpoint.
Price is usually negotiated in favor of US interests (was not true in Clinton's administration).
Because it was a joint venture between us and several allied countries to fund the production.
