A mom refused to take her ... toddler to the hospital ... Armed police officers tore down the door.

The scene looks like something from a middle-of-the-night drug raid. Guns drawn, police officers in tactical vests surround a beige ranch house in a subdivision. With a single decisive kick, one busts down the door. “Come out with your hands up!” an officer yells, as a flashlight’s blinding beams begin sweeping the room.

But police in Chandler, Ariz., weren’t seeking out a trove of illegal narcotics when they showed up at the modest home in the Phoenix suburbs on Feb. 25. Instead, they were searching for a 2-year-old who had come down with a dangerously high fever. The boy’s mother, Sarah Beck, had allegedly ignored doctors’ orders and refused to take him to the emergency room, fearing that she would get in trouble because he wasn’t vaccinated. When officials showed up to do a welfare check hours later, the child’s father refused to let them in, saying that everything was fine and the fever had passed. Eventually, police decided to take matters into their own hands.

Yes. I just read several other articles that mention the doctor’s fear about meningitis. But here is the main thing. We do know the mom was willing to seek medical treatment for the child when he was exhibiting signs of illness- fever and lethargy. She only decided not to proceed to the ER when the child was obviously better. That is not an alarming decision indeed it makes good sense.

When the doctor and others were told the child no longer had a fever and was active- that should have been the end of it. If the doctor was concerned that the mom was lying and really felt the child was in imminent danger she should have made a house call. I mean this was her patient, right?

That’s a lot of words. Simply stated, you don’t know what a no-knock raid is... and you’re mad about it.

completely besides the point... it doesn't matter if it was a no-knock raid or not - fact is that a lethal force raid was employed against a family. You can't seem to comprehend what the salient points are of the event.

Not mad as you say, but utterly amazed that people like you exist, who cannot focus on the real issues, and may actually vote.

I am old enough to remember (ack, I’m saying that line!....

When one of us children got something like measles the others were kept home to experience it so it would be gotten out of the way!

I am not sure kids actually see any pictures in their so-called Social Studies books of children in Iron Lungs.

They scared the poop out of me. And I was lucky enough to have been brought into this world after the vaccine was discovered/created.

The article mentioned she was concerned she would get in trouble because the boy was not vaccinated if she went to the ER.

At that point, everything else she does or said was questionable.

If a doctor tells a parent to get your child to the ER, you can bet your tush the doctor’s not saying it just to hear himself talk. As a doctor, he’s actually correct for his call to the authorities on this one.

Having had experience with our government’s thugs, I can say I detest them.

The flip-side? If a doctor told me to take my child to the ER, I’m going to take my child to the ER.

Depending on where the child lives (I don’t know that, right now), his temp could have dropped simply because he was outside for a bit; that’s no call to say it wouldn’t come back up. Children are strange little creatures....their bodies can seemingly rebound and then develop high temps again at the drop of a pin.

I really, really hate siding with the authorities on this one....

So you brought up a point of contention that was not at issue here whatsoever.

That is exactly what I’m thinking. Some Docs have a huge ego, and will not tolerate some Hausfrau doing her own thing.
Doc says to himself; “I will not be ignored!!!”
Safety issues are there too, of course, but a bruised ego is fanning the flames.

cops protecting the life of a bay., social services does it every day 24/7. I’vm with it. Even with a libertarian bent. I believe the innocent and helpless must be saved from death and serious abuse. If you opposes abortion, how can you sit by let a kid fry their brain from fever. Parents have no right to kill kid in that situation.

yep!
I was “removed” from our Tricare clinic b/c i refused a papsmear. The doctor told me if i refused that part of the exam, she would drop me as a patient, and make sure I would not be seen at the clinic by any other doctor.
I told her to get the hell out of the exam room, and went home.
But I have to go to another clinic now.
She’s used to old ladies doing exactly what she says because she’s the almighty doctor.

Then don't. It's called precedent, and this action will multiply beyond anything you may deem reasonable.

so willing to protect a family from itself using lethal force of the state - you're a Democrat. It's a known fact that social services hires the best and the brightest, smarted than parents they must be.

Your immediate family is probably a bunch of cats.

Reporting of suspected or confirmed communicable disease is mandated under the Arizona Administrative Codes R9-6-202, R9-6-203, and R9-6-204. The primary responsibility for reporting rests with the provider (R9-6-202a)

And meningitis is a communicable disease, confirmed by blood tests and CT scan (probably the reason for the hospital visit - it did not say ER).

I can only speak from experience and say that if my child's pediatrician told me to get such and such a test to rule something out, I did it.

Good morning Monsieur Laz.
I agree with your argument that the whole militarization of the police is insane. My favorite recently was the guy who had a tv that was not the one he ordered & they surrounded his house. Really!?

I also think a child’s health comes first & if the parents can’t/won’t provide for that child then the government needs to step in. And NO as you described, with a military presence more suited for a serial killer arrest. We’ve all seen the innocent people and dogs killed because of these raids.
I’m a teacher & I have sadly had to call DHS more than I should. I know you would call if you saw abuse/neglect. It’s a slippery slope, thin line kind of thing.

You’re right, doctors make mistakes. But if the toddler was taken to the ER unnecessarily, what are the likely consequences versus if a critically ill toddler were not taken to the ER? Every decision in medicine is a risk equation, and so is police work.

not protecting a family from itself. You don’t know that innocent children require protection from abuse. What do you thinkable those laws are up to statutory rape for teens. We do it everyday all over the country and people here call for the abusive parent to be skinned alive. Now, because the cops are involved, we all become civil rights extremists.

The helpless and innocent have to be protected from the strong and abuse especially when someone who controls their lives will let them die.
