Michelle Obama’s former chief of staff said Wednesday that her behind-the-scenes communications with Cook County’s top prosecutor about the case involving actor Jussie Smollett were not intended at influencing the outcome of the case.
Facing backlash following the decision Tuesday to drop felony charges that Smollett faked a hate crime against himself, Tina Tchen said she simply reached out to Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to put her in touch with Smollett’s family after Smollett reported that he was a victim of an attack in River North.
“I know members of the Smollett family based on prior work together,” Tchen said in a statement released Wednesday. “Shortly after Mr. Smollett reported he was attacked, as a family friend, I contacted Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, who I also know from prior work together. My sole activity was to put the chief prosecutor in the case in touch with an alleged victim’s family who had concerns about how the investigation was being characterized in public.”

Actually, I recall reading some time ago that the relationship between Emanuel and the obama’s had gotten rather frosty. I think they wanted to the run the city behind the scenes and just assumed they would once their boy was in there, but he actually wanted to run it - for better or for worse - himself.

Rahm is too slick for a ham-handed move like this, but Crimesha Foxx who saw her mentor “Prickwrinkle” going down jumped at the chance to ingratiate herself with the Hollywood/Obama crowd who would give her a much better power base, much closer to her other mentor, Kamala Harris.
Rahm anger was real, but he also knows how the Obama’s operate better than anyone and wanted to be sure he was not the point man for the retribution that was sure to come.

There was a black retired Los Angeles police officer on Fox yesterday and she wasn’t having any of it. She said it was clear that Smollett got the “homey hookup” and that if she had done what he did, she’d be in court facing serious charges.

The prosecutor? I can promise you she had already been in touch with them during the investigation. If not, then the work “done” by the Chicago police and DA was not done.
He got caught with his hands in the cookie jar, and was worried about his reputation? He better worry about the fact that people who have information on some in the liberal party that needs covering seem to disappear or die. And any idiot should know that Smollett didn’t work without getting help from someone in the system. He’s toast if it is investigated by the DOJ or the FBI and charges brought up for a false hate crime report. Someone’s stuff will be in the wind.
