There’s no such thing as a popular vote!!!
What was the “popular vote” in the first presidential election???
Didn’t legislatures choose the electors very early on?
Now the “popular vote” is all of a sudden the gold standard.
I’m sure some of my info is wrong and Smarter FReepers than I will clear things up. I appreciate it.
And that wall better stay immovable, or the country is gone.
I’ve never understood this, unless they plan to bullshit voters into thinking they tried and those evil republicans shot their valiant effort down...
Democrats know they can’t change it, that requires a lot more than a simple majority vote, I think its 2/3 majority because it’s a constitutional change. They insist on trying to make a show of it, knowing it will never happen, the only reason I can think of is to fool voters into thinking they can do it then blame Republicans when it gets shot down. As usual. And the uninformed Democrats at home do seem to think they can do it.
“Democrats will again have to defeat Trump in the Electoral College they lost in 2016 while winning more votes nationally.”
without “vote harvesting” or cheating it’s not a given that Dems will win more votes nationally.
“Popular vote” is a leftist term for tyranny.
Over my dead body. And should be over the dead body of every American, but especially to those of us who swore an oath.
The Electoral College is the firewall protecting the country against massive vote fraud.
And the cancer continues
Imagine 2020 and a slightly different map and those states giving up their vote to go with the majority, find that majority is Trump, contrary to their state voter’s wishes? They’ll feel really smart then. The Electoral College serves a purpose and they are undermining our republic by throwing their votes to the majority without regard to the votes of their state’s residents. Sad and I hope it comes back to bite them.
GOOD!
Delaware just signed *into law* that their electors have to vote for whoever got the most votes nationwide. They have just disenfranchised their own voters.
If the DCC can convince enough states to do this, then they will own the EC, no matter how the states vote.
:...lost in 2016 while winning more votes nationally. “
If you take out the illegal votes and more importantly the anchor baby votes, then Trump wins in a land slide. Anchor babies are not American citizens and should be deported along with their criminal parents.
There was no popular vote contest in 2016 anymore than there was a swimsuit, talent or Miss Congeniality competition. There can be no national popular vote in future elections until we adopt common standards for voter registration, voter identification, vote casting, vote security, vote counting, and vote reporting.
Dang Constitution!!
Over and over, things like this remind me of the true brilliance of our Founding Fathers.
I believe the only states to sign on to the ‘interstate compact’ (which is an end-around that pesky amendment process) are states with democrat legislatures and a democrat governorwhich have already been awarding their electoral votes to the democrat candidate. Yet another reason not to vote for local dems, even if they aren’t crazy.
As I have stated before, you can rest assured that it the compact ever reached 270 and went into effect, a Republican winning the ‘popular vote’ would not receive these states’ electoral votes if it were to make a difference. In the days after the November election and the December electoral college vote, these same democrat governors would call their democrat-dominated legislature into emergency session to award their states’ electoral votes to the democrat candidate that won their in their state. They have no problem changing the rules if the rules mean they lose.
Nevada’s new Democrat Legislature is trying to make that switch.
Disgusting.
We are already a state that actually benefits from the Electoral College.
I think less than 6 million in the whole state...with an overflow of illegals in Las Vegas.
'nuff said.
This whole movement is born of two things:
1) butt-hurt sore loserism by Leftists after 2016
And
2) the Lefts fetish for centralizing all power so as to concentrate it in fewer hands....those who know whats best for us...by which they of course mean themselves. The Left has long wanted to reduce the sovereign states to mere administrative conveniences of imperial Washington.
