Morning Joe: Jimmy Carter's Failures 'Beyond His Control, Fell on His Shoulders'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 03/22/2019 8:52:04 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Given that Mika Brzezinski's late father Zbigniew served as Jimmy Carter's national security adviser, you knew that Morning Joe would go out of its way to celebrate Carter on the occasion of his becoming the oldest living former President.

And sure enough, on today's show, Joe Scarborough glorified Carter as an "extraordinary human being, a wonderful man," working in a gratuitous swipe at President Trump by adding, "just a great contrast with, unfortunately, what we're struggling through right now." Scarborough commended Carter for Camp David, and even claimed that his support for human rights contributed to the fall of the Iron Curtain.

But the show took things an unpardonable step too far by absolving Carter for his multiple failures. First, Scarborough claimed that the Iranian hostage crisis and the oil crisis were "beyond his control." A bit later, Scarborough claimed that Carter's 1980 loss to Reagan wasn't due to his own failed leadership, but to Democrats' past mistakes that "fell on his shoulders." Poor Jimmy.

Carter was a smarmy Jew hating leftist who was consistently apologizing for America. He was weak as a leader, and usually exercised bad judgement. Other than that, he was ok.

But everything is Trump's fault, whether he had control or not.

I lived through the Carter years, with the gas lines, 10% unemployment, and 18% interest rates!!

It was under Carter that we had the highest "Misery Index". The misery index is calculated by adding the rate of inflation to the rate of unemployment. Under Carter, the average was 16.26, but that's not the whole story. When entering office, it was only 12.66. It reached a high of 21.98 in Carter's last year of his presidency in 1980.

Points of reference: Reagan took over for Carter and by 1986 it was down to 7.7

The average under Trump through May 2018 is 6.46.

It wasn’t the terrible economic conditions, Carter watched as the Iranians held Americans hostage.

Then to prove how much of a whimp he was, he went and got his ass kicked by a rabbit!

What kind of pussified Commander in Chief gets his ass kicked by a rabbit? I mean, O’bastard could but nobody else.
