Carter was a smarmy Jew hating leftist who was consistently apologizing for America. He was weak as a leader, and usually exercised bad judgement. Other than that, he was ok.

I lived through the Carter years, with the gas lines, 10% unemployment, and 18% interest rates!! It was under Carter that we had the highest "Misery Index". The misery index is calculated by adding the rate of inflation to the rate of unemployment. Under Carter, the average was 16.26, but that's not the whole story. When entering office, it was only 12.66. It reached a high of 21.98 in Carter's last year of his presidency in 1980.
Points of reference: Reagan took over for Carter and by 1986 it was down to 7.7
The average under Trump through May 2018 is 6.46.
