FBI joining criminal investigation into certification of Boeing 737 MAX

The FBI has joined the criminal investigation into the certification of the Boeing 737 MAX, lending its considerable resources to an inquiry already being conducted by U.S. Department of Transportation agents, according to people familiar with the matter.

The federal grand jury investigation, based in Washington, D.C., is looking into the certification process that approved the safety of the new Boeing plane, two of which have crashed since October.

The FBI’s Seattle field office lies in proximity to Boeing’s 737 manufacturing plant in Renton, as well as nearby offices of Boeing and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials involved in the certification of the plane.

The investigation, which is being overseen by the U.S. Justice Department’s criminal division and carried out by the Transportation Department’s Inspector General, began in response to information obtained after a Lion Air 737 MAX 8 crashed shortly after takeoff from Jakarta on Oct. 29, killing 189 people, Bloomberg reported earlier this week, citing an unnamed source.

Funny how the FBI can spring into action to pursue possible criminal charges against Boeing and FAA employees yet let Hillary and the criminals in its own ranks run free.

They should have brought in agents from out of town to at least appear to be running an objective investigation.

Given the FBI’s recent record of corruption, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the FBI folks were literally in the bed with Boeing folks.

Don’t give up hope yet.

There still might be a bribe yet from airlines that make this go away

From what I have seen- If most of the people on FR were conducting the investigation then it would be one of the most corrupt investigations ever conducted. It seems that most of the people here have already found them completely innocent with no regards to looking at all of the evidence.

IT’s Boeing, so they have to be innocent.

I wonder if they are going to care as much when self driving cars start killing folks left and right?

That’s how you know the Clintons had nothing to do with this.

Well, more innocent than Airbus.

No idea whether Boeing is good or bad, but the fact that Trump was trying to promote some of their expertise to China is probably what prompted the media to get involved in this.

The accidents may have involved imperfect training, or too much reliance on an automated system (which they are told to rely on, sort of like self-driving cars), or a defect.

On the other hand, it could have been total cynical corruption from Boeing, trying to sell a “fail proof” automated system that didn’t do its job and could not be controlled when it failed, Who knows? But unfortunately we’ll probably never know the truth from the media.

FBI joining criminal investigation into certification of Boeing

After a long time (50) years of flying, raising an airline captain son (Ace) and many more years observing the industry, I don't see the need or expense for the FBI at this juncture in the investigation.

My son is asleep right now; he's overseas, but I'll query him in his morning hours for his opinion.

As you might expect, my son is a President Trump supporter as well as his dad!

given the corruption in the FBI......I wouldn't be surprised if Lisa Page new job was just that..working as a “undercover informant” for the FBI..she already has the right credentials and has been vetted..../s

What’s your opinion of the 337MAX’s airworthiness?

Why would an autopilot ever send a plane straight into the ground?

I could be mistaken, but there have been several now including her. Apparently they are totally acceptable losses for the greater good. In no way should we be subsidizing any bit of this concept at all.

For your consideration. The 737 Max series is not a 737. It has subsystems that mimick the same imputs as the 737. Some training is required in case of system failure.

An example of a smaller craft would be the Beechcraft line; the King Air 90 through the D 1900. You can step into the cockpit of any one of them and feel comfortable with any of them. That said, the King Air 200 series is more “nose heavy” than a 90 or 100. There is no subsystem software to make it fly the same, but it doesn’t take much time to pick up the nuances.

I believe the issue is the pilot training in these different countries.

2 weeks ago a high school friend augered his PA-46 into the Red River. I’m not going to blame Piper Aircraft...

I don’t see how anybody can handle a low level Boeing flight emergency with 200 hours total time. Putting somebody in one of those seats with that little flight time is crazy.

Approximately 350 people died from clear malfeasance.... Trying to equate the FBI’s handling of this to Hillary’s white collar crimes, is a bit pathetic. Yes she should be prosecuted, but to attempt to compare these 2 situations is disgusting.
