The Georgia senator is one of just two lawmakers within the GOP conference to directly criticize Trump publicly over his recent round of attacks on McCain.
One Republican senator pointedly called President Donald Trumps comments disparaging the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., deplorable on Wednesday one of only two GOP lawmakers to weigh in on the latest controversy. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said that Trumps remarks over the past several days had been inappropriate.
I want to be crystal clear: We can talk about the politics of the military any way we want to, but we dont talk about veterans any way but to brag on them for the service they render and the job that they do, he told radio interviewer Bill Nigut of Georgia Public Broadcasting.
Its deplorable what he said... It will be deplorable seven months from now if he continues to say it, and I will continue to speak out.

'Its over Johnny"
It’s way past time for Johnny to go marching home! Hoorah
Why do they have to weigh in? It has nothing to do with them.
So a vet who STEALS for 30 years should be revered!?!?!?
S and L. and he never stopped stealing.
I am very thankful to all of the vets and am a big proponent of the head injured vets as I can relate because I have a non military head injury.
It is not, however, a blank check to be thief and traitor afterwards.
That’s an insult to all the vets on this board and everywhere who CONTINUED to be good men for decades after the wars.
I am sick of people in government treating John McCain like he was George Washington and above even the suggestion of flaws just because he hated Trump.
I guess that makes Trump one of us Deplorables.
The late senator from AZ was real nice to folks he liked, all six of them.
Trump was just honest when asked about McCain. What in the world says we have to like someone after they die that we did not like in life.
Facts are facts.
John McCain failed his constituents and the USA when he voted against the repeal of Obamacare. He told the Senate leadership that he was going to vote to support the repeal of Obamacare. He told his constituents that he was going to vote for the repeal of Obamacare.
After all his promises he let us all down by FAILING to vote for the repeal of Obamacare.
May John McCain rest in peace.
While I am definitely not a fan of McCain, I wish Trump would let stuff like this go.
He completely blew his good news messaging of manufacturing workers today by addressing this McCain issue that most people are not following and, for the most part, it’s too difficult to understand. Not the smartest move if he is looking to show folks his accomplishments.
I truly think at times the biggest threat to Trump is Trump himself.
You are buying into “Virtue Signaling”
Knock it Off.
Nope
Nothing wrong in Trump pointing the facts about McCain and his treasonous and corrupt behaviour.
Trump being Trump will act on hus instincts and thats why people love him.
I just emailed Isakson and told him to do a Lamar Alexander.
I also called him worthless and weak.
When he checks my name, he will see that this Georgia Gal always votes.
Yes, they were brought up in his speech last night in Ohio.
Where it gets personal, though, is the now-revealed role the late senator and his staff played in getting the FBI to start investigating Donald Trump and his campaign organization and his alleged ties to Russia.
All courtesy of a fake "dossier" prepared by a Trump-hating former British intelligence agent and paid for by the Hillary campaign and the DNC.
Which McStain dutifully turned over to the FBI in late November, 2016, and was thanked for doing so.
But the FBI already had a copy, given to them earlier in the campaign by parties unknown.
You won't find that in any regular news report about Trump's speech in Lima, for an obvious reason: they don't want to report anything that resembles the truth when it's Trump. It's all for getting emotional reaction from the masses.
Here is the short version at The Daily Caller and the long, long version at Real Clear Investigations.
Take your pick.
I have a question, are you going to vote for President Trump? If you are, do it and quit being so sanctimonious about it. If not, get off the board, nobody cares what you think. If you ponder this, you are where you are because that's the way it is and President Trump is where he is because that's the way it is. Whatever makes you think that you can second guessed that guy? I ask because I tried that a few times and I was always wrong, as you are now. Never second guess the man, he will be right and you will appear foolish. Now I know that if the President kicks a sick puppy and whacks a nun, the must have a reason and I wouldn't turn a hair thinking about it.
Johnny has his own problems. A prisoner to Parkinson’s disease puppeted by staffers. McCain played dirty. My POW contacts held him in contempt. My Navy Pilot shipmates know he was a reckless pilot prone to crashes. He was corrupt as in the Ketting 5 bank scandal. A brinksmans like Sam Nunn. Finally a liar on repeal Affordable Health Care.
A good McCain exposé is due. Heroic at times, perhaps. Scandalous to treasonous progressively being proven.
The reality is the McCain/Trump Feud started when McCain not only refused to support Trump in 2016, but openly supported others etc. in 2008 McCain came to Trump for support and cash, which Trump gave both...
When it was time for McCain to return the favor he refused... This all happened before Trump made his comments about McCain not being a hero...
McCain disgraced himself in many ways from that point forward... And I am not defending Trump and everything he has said or done in this regard either.. but this media spin that McCain was a saint and Trump is just a bastard is total bullspit.
