Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the debate over President Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southern border boils down to "pretty simple calculus."

Twelve Senate Republicans joined the Democrats' effort last week to block Trump's emergency declaration, including the party's 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

The resolution, which the president vetoed the following day, would have blocked Trump from seizing billions of dollars intended for other projects in order to pay for his long-promised border wall.

"Did the president have authority to issue the emergency? He did. It's statutory. Congress gave it to him," Nielsen said on "Special Report" Monday.

She said she can confirm there is absolutely a humanitarian disaster at the border, and it's becoming more "heart-wrenching" every single day.

"We truly are in system meltdown," Nielsen said. "The system was not built for this type of flow, for these numbers and what we're seeing, whether it's drugs, whether it's traffickers, whether it's the child exploiters, or whether it's all the families and the children who are coming across very sick and very in need."

Nielsen's not exaggerating - not at all. Am in Central Texas - used to only see a concentration of south-of-the-border types in the stores around the first of the month. Now I can go any day of the week and see them piled in Walmart and the grocery stores - it's like I'm not in Texas or even America. In listening to them talk, it's Spanish alright, but the accents tend to be wrong - more Central American types than Mexicans these days. They'll be in nice clothes, with the latest greatest smart phones, driving pretty nice vehicles. A friend of mine who runs an auto service business now gets a steady stream of these foreigners and has had to step up his mastery of Spanish in order to deal with them. I'm trying to figure out where all these invaders are holing up at - there just isn't housing widely available around here for that crush of people, unless they're renting out large homes and splitting it up to a family per room of the house.

In a mid-sized Eastern Tennessee city I live in, they rent homes (some in nicer neighborhoods) and hole up with about 25 per house, coming and going. Dealing drugs, running guns, etc. The one who should be placed six feet under is the landowner who rents out to them.

I am in Oregon and my “lying eyes” see that at least 50% , (not exaggerating) 50% , (at least 50%) all around where I live is “Hispanic” and speaking Spanish. there are also huge populations of islamics and ethiopians We are outnumbered by immigrants and the get a lot of special benefits I can’t get
