New Zealand authorities have reminded citizens that they face up to 10 years in prison for knowingly possessing a copy of the New Zealand mosque shooting video and up to 14 years in prison for sharing it. Corporations (such as web hosts) face an additional $200,000 ($137,000 US) fine under the same law.
Terrorist Brenton Tarrant used Facebook Live to broadcast the first 17 minutes of his attack on the Al Noor Mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand at approximately 1:40 p.m. on Friday the first of two mosque attacks which left 50 dead and 50 injured.
. Copies of Tarrants livestream, along with his lengthy manifesto, began to rapidly circulate on various file hosting sites following the attack, which as we noted Friday were quickly scrubbed from mainstream platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Scribd. YouTube has gone so far as to intentionally disable search filters so that people cannot find Christchurch shooting materials including footage of suspected multiple shooters as well as the arrest of Tarrant and other suspects.
On Saturday, journalist Nick Monroe reported that New Zealand police have warned citizens that they face imprisonment for distributing the video, while popular New Zealand Facebook group Wellington Live notes that NZ police would like to remind the public that it is an offence to share an objectional publication which includes the horrific video from yesterdays attack. If you see this video, report it immediately. Do not download it. Do not share it. If you are found to have a copy of the video or to have shared it, you face fines & potential imprisonment.

Seriously? What law would this possibly fall under or did they draft a law specifically applying to this video?????
Isn’t this the model country everyone wants to immigrate to ?
HMMMMM interesting afraid of something.
So much for freedom of press and liberty.
What about possession videos of Muslims killing non-Muslims? Those apparently abound on the internet (and, no doubt, in the homes of many devout Muslims).
There’s no freedom of press or free speech outside of the the United States.
But having a video of Ugandan Christians being hacked to death is okay. Got it.
The Prime Minister was wearing a headscarf yesterday maybe she converted
The darkness of Socialist style tyranny is permeating New Zealand today. It isn’t the New Zealanders there need be such scrutiny, and control.
New Zealand is definitely NOT the model country. Ours is ... because of the US Constitution ... and in spite of the Marxist/Leftist Democrats.
Today there would be no Zapruder film.
Sorry, boys - we’re in the internet age. The cat was out of the bag seconds after it was streamed.
Authorities and corporate entities are trying their darnedest to scrub the thing from the Internet. They’ll never do it, but they can make it difficult to find. I got my copy of the video from a bitTorrent download (a Pirate Bay link).
It’s up at this site if anyone wants it ...
Are they issuing fines and claiming damages from Facebook for facilitating in its making?
I would like to read this law, or is that a crime too?
Putting a person in jail for 10 years for viewing a video, is as heinous a crime as murder. Arguably worse, because it’s done with tyrranical authority; and like murder, can be committed against anyone for any reason and there’s no recourse, no justice.
The Obamas and Hillary hang out there often
I get that their country has been shocked by the violent killings, but emotion is being allowed to take control of the law. Eventually, someone is going to sue about it, if NZ is anything like the USA in rule of laws.
Hey, remember that pastor who wanted to burn the Koran?
The Associated Press sent warnings to all newspapers that they were not goinv to publicize it and threatened anyone who would
If anyone finds a copy of that video, be sure to archive it, because rest assured, leftists will use a *distorted* version of what happened in it as justification for whatever tyranny they wish to impose.
There is no, zero, legitimate reason to threaten someone with 10 years in prison for possession of information, in whatever form. But if you think such an obsession is impossible, you remember what happens to those who get their hands on incriminating information about Hillary Clinton, don’t you?
Information is power.
