Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) told CNN Friday that he believed President Trumps rhetoric may have played a part in the horrific shootings at two mosques in New Zealand that left 49 dead.
"Words have consequences like saying we have an invasion on our border and talking about people as though they were different in some fatal way," Blumenthal said. "I think that the public discourse from the president on down is a factor in some of these actions.
"We know that at the very pinnacle of power in our own country, people are talking about 'good people on both sides,'" he added, referencing comments that President Trump made about the 2017 violence in Charlottesvillle, Virginia that left one woman dead.
Richard Blumenthal on New Zealand shooting
You mean the president talking about it? CNNs Alisyn Camerota commented. I mean I know its hard to even call this out.
"I think it's more than the president, Blumenthal replied. It's the people who enable him, and who fail to stand up to him and speak out and we're seeing some glimmers of spine now, in the United States Congress, some of my colleagues in the last three votes standing up to him and saying no to his trampling on the Constitution."
Sen. Blumenthal often criticizes President Trump and, in response, the president has mocked Blumenthal for lying about serving in Vietnam. Blumenthal claimed he "misspoke" regarding his military service.
I don’t listen to frauds like
Blumenthal.

He did what!?!!?!?
He affirms that there are those that our side will NEVER reconcile with and are high up on the list. They have lists and we have lists. CWII may be here or may come later.
When I talk about my head injury here sometimes people mail me and say thank you for your service.
I could ignore the response but I ALWAYS tell them I DID NOT SERVE but I am a YUGE supporter of brain injured vets. I support all vets but just can relate to the brain injured ones more. Though their injuries are usually FAR WORSE than mine.
No one knows me here.
I could say “you’re welcome” and be an injured vet hero on the board.
But that’s SICK. And I’m not SICK. Or that narcissistic!!
I think :)
Dems seem to make a habit out of it!!
Of course, Obama's rhetoric about "bringing a gun" and "getting in their face" and "back of the bus" never incited anyone to do anything bad. /s
My father served in Korea, never really spoke about it and I never asked him either.
I think of that and some of my friends fathers who served in Vietnam and never spoke of it, then I see a clown like this guy stating that he did when he didn’t and I can’t wrap my head (no pun here bro) around the concept of lying about that! It’s not like saying you got an A when you got a B+.
I hope you are always well. I hope this guy gets what he deserves.
Thanks. And me too.
My pop and brothers were in WWII or Korea.
Uncle spoke of Korea, but not till late 80s.
Other uncle spoke of the Bulge but not until mid 80s.
BIL spoke for 2 or 3 minutes once of Vietnam.
ALL horrible stories.
Some things your eyes see and your hands do that can’t leave your mind.
My one uncle in the Bulge was a machine gunner on a tank he said he was shooting and crying and shooting and crying and wave after wave after wave of Germans kept coming.
It’s a hard thing to live with. Seeing all the dead and for some or more than some, taking so many lives, even if they are the enemy.
These weren’t mobsters. These are ordinary Joes who otherwise would have never killed someone.
korea was brutal. You pop must have been a tough guy.
da nang dick is a true dick.
I never finished college, but in my almost 70 years I have never seen such idiocy. The Nation that was once the envy of the World, and copied many times over is being lead by children and gutless old Dims/Rinos. With the US sliding into socialism (for many years now) which ultimately results in totalitarianism, I'm starting to give credence to those who claim armed conflict is coming.
I hope I die before the above comes to pass. If not - I gave an eternal Oath to the United States of America. I continue to hope Law Enforcement agencies and the Military honor that same Oath they swear to.
For those who are interested in secure comms, Protonmail.com is encrypted and has not been hacked for now. No, I have no vested interest in that site. Just use it for personal messages I'd rather not have Hotmail/Gmail see and save for their own purposes. However, any person you want to talk to also has to be signed into Protonmail.com. It's simple and is free.
The one time my infantry Father talked about the Bulge was that he got run over by a tank. He lucked out being directly underneath. His two squad brothers were crushed. Talk about the 1000 yard stare in his eyes. I was still Navy and it broke my heart. We never talked about war after that. He knew what I was facing against Soviet surface and subs. He knew about the hell in the Pacific. If not for Truman dropping the atomic bombs on Japan, I probably would not be here to write this, since he had orders to transit to that war.
TDS has evolved into THS, Trump HATE Syndrome.
Kind of hypocritical when, a short period back, so much emphasis was directed against HATE and now the same group who condemned it, continue to spew, over and over, so much total hate against the leaders of our country. “A house divided cannot stand”. I don’t believe this hate group realize the unintended consequences they are creating.
Oathkeeper ping!
Why is America still policing the world and still nation building? Yes, I understand we have to have a presence in certain regions and keep the seas open, but still the Middle East where they don't know what do with the freedom we gave them through blood and treasure?
If I were President for one day:
1. I would tell Kim Un give up his nukes/ballistic missles or we nuke your pissy little country into oblivion. Collateral damage be damned. We did it in Germany and Japan and they learned their lesson. Think Hamburg, Berlin, Hiroshima, etc.
2. Middle East: I would tell Iran to stop their nuke development or we fry them. I would pull our Troops out of Syria and let the Russians have it. Think what a drain on Russian economy. That's the main reason the Soviet Union fell.
3. Mexico gets notice that if they don't stop their own countrymen and the caravans from Central America from invading our borders, all remittances are cut off, along with any stupid aid we give them. Close our embassies.
BTW, what is with us winning wars and giving the country back? We fought our way to Mexico City during the Mexican/American war and turned around and headed home so they could become a huge nuisance. Big mistake. We did the same with Germany, Japan, Italy, Northern Africa, Iraq, Aftganiscrap and others can't remember.
Used to be when a nation won a war, they kept the spoils of war as in the conquered nation or region. Think if all the above were American territories like American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands how powerful the USA would be compared to the egotistical motherland Russia and the cheating, stealing China?
Think of the technology and industrial abilities of Germany and Japan alone that American investors could have helped build and continue to this day.
Next war, keep the damn country! Use their resources to promote freedom while we gain more GDP! They don't like it, kill them again.
Think you mean Sid, don’t you?
Is he related to Sidney Blumenthal?
Sidney was the wiki leaks guy in so many of Hillarys memos.
Sid was their “pit bull”, not Richard.
GREAT post.
Endless wars are killing us.
NO spoils of war have killed us.
I did not know about the withdrawal from Mexico.
Makes no sense.
We need more DOING and so much less talking.

This is NOT TAUGHT in school, anywhere. After the Zimmerman memo, Mexico was told that they were not to develop tank divisions. That doing so would be an act of war.
To this day, they don’t have any main battle tanks. I was shocked to discover this about two years ago.
