Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said Thursday that there should be a federal moratorium on executions.
The senator from California discussed the matter on National Public Radio, a day after Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California granted reprieves to 737 death row inmates and signed an executive order placing a moratorium on executions.
Harris was asked if there should be a federal equivalent to Newsoms order.
She said, Yes, I think that there should be. [ ]
She noted that black and Latino defendants were more likely to be executed than white defendants, as were poor defendants with poor legal representation versus wealthier defendants with good legal representation.

I'd be the hell out of California the day after my aged mother passed but I'll never convince the wife to leave the children and grandkids.
Princess Kammie gets upset every time one of her voters gets the death penalty. The costs to keep them in prison and all of their legal fees should be taken out of the paychecks and pensions of all politicians.
Harris should call for a moratorium on all state sanctioned death including execution and abortion. I’m just sayin’
Timothy McVeigh was imprisoned and executed in the Federal prison in Terre Haute, IN
More Marxist bullshit from Ms. Little Willie Buffer.
Save the rapist murderers kill the babies
The federal government has executed three people in the last 55 years, none since 2003. I think the moratorium is already in place.
Thanks. I knew someone would know.
Save the 99% Dem population on death row.....
Interestingly, if you are innocent but convicted, your BEST chance at getting your conviction overturned is if you are sentenced to death.
It is much easier to get a bad conviction reversed if you are waiting execution, than if you are stuck in prison for any other crime.
(Although that statistic has been overturned in the past 3 years, as a new push to get people off for wrongful drug convictions now makes “Drug Possession or Sale” the convictions most likely to be reversed).
We are only talking about a couple hundred a year max though.
The other big crime where there are a lot of exonerations are sexual assaults; despite the claim that nobody lies about this, there is a lot of perjury and false accusations, and we are reversing a lot of convictions because we have better DNA tests (child sex assault cases are ripe for wrongful convictions).
Timothy Mcveigh last one I can think of.
Thanks. digger48 also let me know that, back when the thread was new.
Not the federal governments jurisdiction...
Other than folks sentenced in FEDERAL COURT to death. most are convicted and sentenced for state crimes not federal crimes for the death penalty...
