'The LeBron James of money laundering investigations' leaving Mueller's team: report

One of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s top prosecutors conducting the Russia investigation is leaving the Justice Department, prompting new speculation that the probe is coming to an end, a report said.

Andrew Weissmann will leave to teach at New York University while working on various public service projects and preventing wrongful convictions, NPR reported. Weissmann helped build the case against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort, who was recently sentenced to more than seven years in prison following two cases related to the Mueller probe. Neither case alleged Russian collusion.

His departure signals the special counsel investigation is coming to a conclusion, one source told NPR. Weissmann has been a frequent target of conservative legal interest groups and supporters of the president. Author Michael Wolff said former Trump advisor Steve Bannon told him that Weissmann was like "the LeBron James of money laundering investigations."

It must be closing down. When this low life bottom feeder leaves, you know that they have sucked all of the available scum from the pond. There ain't even a catfish left in the water.

Weissman should be in jail.

Helping work on preventing wrongful convictions? The jokes write themselves sometimes.

Just in time for NYU's summer semester?

This sounds kinda like the "leaving to spend more time with his family" line. "Preventing wrongful convictions"? Considering the guy's history, somebody has a sick sense of humor.

William Barr was confirmed as Attorney General on February 14, 2019. Odd coincidence.

So the Weissman half of the Mueller-Weissman Gang is leaving organized crime. He belongs in a special cell in SuperMax.

After the release of the Ohr testimony, Barr probably demanded that Weissman step down. Weissman wa deeply conflicted and should never have been on the team. Ohr indicated that Weissman had been briefed on the Steele Dossier long before he joined Mueller’s team.

It looks like, if Weissman is leaving, then the report that the Trump kids are going to be indicted is BS since Weissman has been the signatory on all of the indictments he has been the lead prosecutor. He would not be leaving if the “kids” were to be indicted.

“Weissman should be in jail.”

Solitary for 5 years and then labeled as a pedophile and put in the general population.

I guess the new AG bill barr is all over this thing. /s

Has barr done anything yet? Is he going to go after any real criminals or just continue to insulate the fake investigations by the real criminals?

I wonder when it is effective?

Hopefully, he was given the bum’s rush out the door by security this morning, and his computers and phone impounded for investigation.

Weissmann is bias incorporated. Mueller got all of the “honorable” man garbage while Weissmann did all of the dishonorable work. Makes me want to spit.

My guess is that Weissmann is going to start leaking classified info to the US Attorney for Southern District of NY and the NY state Attorney General.

You're probably right. Might be time for someone to start covertly investigating and documenting/recording everything Weissmann does.

Maybe he can look into the killing of Enron. A rogue prosecutor killed the company...and was overturned 9-0 by the Supremes.
