Liberal universities spell out speech-restriction changes in face of Trump's grant removal talk

President Trump has promised to end federal research grants for universities that don’t “support free speech,” but determining which colleges support a marketplace of ideas can present a kind of political Rorschach test.

Critics have long decried efforts to stifle or disrupt conservative speakers at college campuses, such as the University of California at Berkeley, which cited safety concerns in canceling speeches by right-wing commentator Milo Yiannopoulos in 2017. That same year, a student group also pulled its sponsorship for a speech by Ann Coulter, facing stiff criticism.

But the notedly liberal university, which was plagued with violence by mostly off-campus activists in 2017, has since hosted several conservative speakers such as Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens and Rick Santorum, and has paid for their security details.

“In the last year alone, this university spent more than $4 million to ensure that our conservative students could safely and successfully hold events on campus and invite speakers of their choice to these events,” UC Berkeley spokesman Dan Mogulof said in an email.

FIRE, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, has a good idea of just which universities are the big offenders. They have taken many to court, almost always winning.

Trump’s proposed sanctions are a sound and well deserved rebuke to the fascist swine running too many educational institutions.

So what are they worried about?

If they allow free speech on campus they’ll get their research funding.

...

If that much money was required to keep liberals safe, the corrupt media would be making a big deal of it every minute of the day and blaming it on Trump.

Maybe the colleges should arrest those creating the security risk and not allow them to stifle free speech.

So what are they worried about?

That students will be exposed to other opinions.........

“Liberals claim to want to give a hearing to other views, but then are shocked and offended to discover that there are other views.” - William F. Buckley, Jr.

Abolish speech codes - yes explicitly including so-called “hate speech” - or be in noncompliance and get your funding slashed.

UC-Berkeley would have a lot to lose, including the prestigious RadLab at Livermore.

It’s appalling that they would have to pay that much to keep conservative speakers safe! Expulsion should be automatic for any students that would so threaten safety.

HALLALUYA! They need to be cleaned out like the overrun cesspool infront of the house. I would suggest that instead of the DOE we should have a education commission with a declaration that all schools in America have to follow or no money! The teaching of American history, not the revisionist propagandized crap today, reading writing and arithmetic, not the social justice, liberal arts garbage, trade schools for those who will never be lawyers but will make a fine mechanic and a great living, capitalism and finance not the joys of socialism, athletics with trophies for the achievers no the feel good trophies for losers, Sex education out of the schools until young adult hood period, and lastly stand for the pledge of allegence
