Ocasio-Cortez: People Should Be ‘Excited About Automation' Taking Their Jobs
Breitbart ^ | 3/10/19 | Joshua Caplan

Appearing at the SXSW conference Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said people should be excited by the prospect of robots taking their jobs because it will afford them more time to pursue their creative passions. Ocasio-Cortez speculated fears over automation stem from a lack of financial safety net and economic uncertainty. “We should not be haunted by the specter of being automated out of work,” the self-avowed democrat-socialist said, according to Fast Company. “We should not feel nervous about the tollbooth collector not having to collect tolls. We should be excited by that. But the reason we’re not excited about it is because we live in a society where if you don’t have a job, you are left to die.”

The freshman congresswoman floated a proposal by billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates to tax robots at 90 percent to make up workers’ lost income from automation. “Whether it’s a tax rate, whether it’s distributing wealth that’s created by automation – if we approach solutions to our systems and start entertaining ideas like that, then we should be excited about automation because of what it could potentially mean,” she said.

Ocasio-Cortez then mused that with adequate policies in place, introducing more robots into the workforce could allow society more time to dabble in art and science, and actually increase the pace of innovation, freeing up “more time enjoying the world we live in.”

“Not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage,” she said to loud applause.

As Ocasio-Cortez eluded to in her remarks, the vast majority of Americans are opposed to robots replacing them in certain work settings.

"...more time to pursue their creative passions"

Such as growing your own potatoes. Cleaning and cooking rats and squirrels. Building makeshift shelters out of cardboard and other garbage (good for the environment). That's important in a progressive, socialist society. Ask anyone from Venezuela.

Ms. Ass On Call zings another one! People want PAYCHECKS way before they want “leisure time to do art and crafts”. That stuff is for when the bills are paid, you moron!

90% of the value added to the product by that robot.

Socialists love to tax the value of things, not prices, because the value is determined by the socialists, not the market.

It just dawned on me in reading this why she calls her vision a “Green Revolution.” She must believe that money grows on leafy green trees.

She almost makes it sound like the robots will be ‘unionized’ and getting paid something, and their fed-tax rate will be 90-percent.

I will suggest this...if you put a 90-percent tax rate on robots...no company will sign up for automation unless some idiot Senator writes a tax code giving total relief.

I think in her mind....the robot is like that ‘Lost in Space’ dude.

Hey, Partial-Cortex... Here's an idea: Put scientists to work developing money trees. Then everyone could plant one in their backyard and wouldn't have to worry anymore.

She’s no troll. She’ll run for president and with enough Third World voters in place and corrupt Democrats boosting her, she’d win. If Bernie could get traction the last go round, when he never had a job or even half of a logical, real world idea, then so can the young, brighter than bright-eyed “woman of color,” whose barmaid experience gave her lots of experience in how people make things up as they go along.

Perhaps an IQ minimum to work on Capitol Hill?

Yet another indication that nobody’s scripting or controlling her. She comes up with this stuff all on her own. The fact that it appears to be giving her some success is more due to the ignorance of her fan club than to the great intelligence of someone controlling or directing her behind the scenes. I’m not saying she didn’t have support or help, and I’m not saying that there aren’t people who want to latch on to her and use her now, but nobody’s going to write lines this stupid and give them to her to parrot.

Nevermind Bernie, a nobody with an unknown background was elected twice! A freakin usurper.

Unfortunately, there is no short supply of ignorant voters in this country.

Yes, Occasional Cortex could be voted in. Heck, if the natural born Citizen requirement can be ignored....why not the age requirement?

Its been said so many times before, Trump is almost certainly our last hope at saving our republic. He needs a bunch more help in congress though.
