Satellite images of a facility near Pyongyang suggest that North Korea may be preparing to launch a missile or a satellite.
The increase in activity is around a site known as Sanumdong, where North Korea assembled most of its ballistic missiles and rockets.
It comes after reports earlier this week that North Korea's main rocket launch site at Sohae had been rebuilt.
Work to dismantle Sohae began last year but stopped as US talks stalled.
On Friday US President Donald Trump said he would be disappointed if North Korea was to resume weapons testing.
"I would be surprised in a negative way if he did anything that was not per our understanding. But we'll see what happens," he said.
"I would be very disappointed if I saw testing."
Analysts believe that it is more likely at this stage that Pyongyang is preparing to launch a satellite rather than test a missile.
However the US said earlier this week that this would still be inconsistent with the commitments North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has made to President Trump.
What is happening at Sanumdong? Large vehicles have been seen moving around Sanumdong, activity which has in the past indicated that North Korea was at least preparing to move some kind of missile or rocket to a launch area.
The satellite images were published by the US public radio network NPR.

Maybe its time for some surgical air strikes. The question is how would the fat kid respond?
Of course they are. They didnt get their way at Hanoi. This is what they do.
I meant Beijing.
This is how Kim negotiates, nothing new. It’s all he’s got.
The return of Rocket Man
If he sails one over Japan, then it’s for the Japanese to deal with.
And they'll be buying. Heads up Lockheed, Boeing, Northrup...
What a shock, eh..?
Whoever thought THIS would happen..!
Take the missile out.
Trump gave him a chance, but you really can’t trust a murdering megalomaniac communist tyrant.
BMD equipped cruisers and destroyers, stand by.
They just need to be ignored.
>>>Maybe its time for some surgical air strikes. The question is how would the fat kid respond?<<<
By surgical, might I suggest flying one right up fat boy’s backside?
Wash and repeat....Kim’s still got the same people in position running the show who always have. Same tactics played over and over and always to stall for time to keep their show going.
This is how Kim negotiates, nothing new. Its all hes got.
*************
Kim is patient, deceptive, and knows how our political cycle works. Two big things in his advantgage: nukes and a short 35 miles to Seoul.
He’s a cunning and dangerous character who is playing a long game and knows he’ll be there long after Trump is gone.
Nothing to worry about. Just a little EMP bomb to blow at 30,000 over Kansas.
