SACRAMENTO, Calif. The federal government has rejected $306 million in reimbursements for California's repair of damaged spillways on the nation's tallest dam, a state agency said Friday.
California has so far requested about $639 million from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for the Oroville Dam repairs, said Lisa Lien-Mager of the state's Natural Resources Agency. FEMA has agreed to cover $333 million.
That's less than about a third of the $1.1 billion the state's Department of Water Resources said it took to repair the dam. Spillways on the Oroville Dam crumbled and fell away during heavy rains in February 2017...

Walls to hold back water to protect people downstream from uncontrolled flooding dont work and are immoral, anyway.
Among other things.
I don't trust any contracts or accounting coming out of California. That amount of money for "repairs" is ridiculous. It invites a thorough independent audit.
For that amount of money, you could hire 1100 "repair" workers paying each 1 million dollars each for their efforts.
Gonna be tough for me to get paid now.
It's hard to have sympathy for CA Gov't when they didn't even do proper / ordinary maintenance of the emergency spillway...
It was a massive job on an accelerated schedule, involving a top general contractor (Kiewit), and many specialty subs.
Part of the problem is the huge regulatory/oversight bureaucracy in CA.
Unfortunately, if the feds don’t pay, that means a tremendous number of contractors and skilled individuals will get stiffed — and they have already done the work.
There will be lawsuits, which will get lawyers paid — and little guys stiffed.
Let it burst... :)
cal spends 21 bill a year on services to illegals
Priorities, priorities. Illegals gotta have that health care.
Why would California stiff California workers that repaired California dams? Taxpayers in other states shouldnt be footing the bill for Californias mismanagement of their own public works. They should be happy they got anything from FEMA.

California highways look like their Dams. Unlevel patchwork, pot holes and broken concrete is neglect that pays for Public worker RV Recreation Vehicles.
Broken concrete of California Dams looks like their highways, it is their early retirement plan.
Juan Brown, northern California resident and commercial airline pilot, has been following and reporting on the Oroville Dam situation from the beginning. His analyses have been of considerable interest. His drone footage of the water, the flooding, the spillway, and the work being done, especially the drone footage and air photography, is outstanding overall. His youtube channel is called blancolirio. Here is a release upon this week’s dam update.

last time I looked, the dam was getting pretty full from all the rain. Water was at 814ft; already seeping down the spillway. They haven’t tried opening the gates yet
The dam numbers begin at the 5 minute point.
From minute 10:00
“ based on the most recent weather
forecasts DWR expects the lake level to
rise to 830 feet by the 9th of March the
current flood control plan for this year
at Orville was to keep the lake below
835 feet throughout the end of February
which has been met the plan for March of
this year is to keep the lake below
eight hundred and forty eight feet by
using outflows from the Hyatt powerplant
and the new spillway if needed “
Commiecrats stiff everyone, even their own if it suits them or is convenient.
Blow the dam. Let Nature take her course.
