An investigation is underway after racist names and swastikas were displayed on big screens during a Thursday assembly at the private Sidwell Friends School in Northwest D.C.
It happened when Upper School students gathered for a presentation about OnSide, a student-founded project which uses soccer to help bolster an understanding between people of different backgrounds.
Following the presentation, students took part in an online game, using their cellphones to answer questions.
Their answers, along with the submitters username, were projected onto large screens.
Some of the usernames were racist toward Asians and Native Americans. Two usernames contained swastikas.
Once the offensive words and symbols were noticed, the schools assistant dean told presenters to turn the screens off and end the assembly.
An investigation is underway to determine which students are responsible.
In a letter to parents on Thursday afternoon, Head of Sidwell Friends School Bryan Garman called the incident a serious breach of the schools honor code and harassment policy.
I am disappointed, dismayed and deeply sorry that such an incident could take place at our school. Racism and anti-Semitism will not be tolerated in this community, Garman wrote.
We must strive always to live the question posed in our diversity statement: How do we nurture a sense of belonging in our community and demonstrate our commitment to a just world?
Garman will address Upper School students directly on Friday morning.
Now why do I know that name? </sarc>
Little fascist training grounds.
Perhaps two of its students helped “transform” the school? /S
This was wrong, but still...
We must strive always to live the question posed in our diversity statement: How do we nurture a sense of belonging in our community and demonstrate our commitment to a just world?
WTH?!?!?!
WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!?!!?..our commitment to a just world?????
With the U.S. House all but endorsing anti-semitism, will swaistikas become acceptable?
Part of the reason these things happen is because there is an entire generation of kids in this country that have been trolled and trolling their entire lives. They dont post things like that to espouse racist views per se but because they know it has maximum shock value. Just as kids have always done, they seek notoriety and attention.
I'll bet that one is going to turn out to be a dot or feather. Swastika, as well, as it is a traditional symbol found in either of those cultures.
Watch for this one to be quietly swept under the rug.
Sounds nice but my experience is anything like this is usually a leftist orchestration subtly hitting honkies over the head with needless, confabulated guilt.
The fact that the kids chose those symbols in their names shows me they, too, understand this.
It's not just creative play, it's a way of hitting back, a way of not being guilted into submission for made-up stuff.
It's pure liberal psycho babble. It means nothing.
Well THERE'S your problem!
Hoax!
Squeeze all that politically correct behavior into such a tight closed space over time, eventually there will be a shocking explosion. No doubt the righteous Board, Teachers and staff at Stilwell are shocked and cannot fathom how such an action could emanate in their sanctified environment.
The only difference between now and years gone by is now there are no consequences for this behavior. They grow up knowing there are no consequences and are reinforced by what they see from their progressive leaders.
“We found two students who used swastikas in their usernames.”
“Outrageous. Trump has emboldened racism in our kids. Who are they? I want them expelled.”
“Mohammed and Ahmed”
“Oh, never mind. We must take a stand for Free Speech, even if it does offend Trump’s Jews.”
So the microsecond the consumers have one tiny skosh of freedom, all of them show a strong reaction completely different to how the media producers intended:
There will be a long article about, say, urban youths "acting up" at a local mall. The very first or maybe second comment will be a guess about THE TYPE of person involved as perpetrators. It's like clockwork:
The editors see it one way, then the entire outside world all sees it a different way.
It's like a waiter delivering a platter of quilted bonnets, then all the diners turn the bonnets into spaghetti and begin heartily eating.
How could this weirdness have continued for so long? Because the media has had an iron-clad monopoly on the instruments of dissemination, that's how.
But it's changing, especially in very young people.
Probably fake news, like the last 500 “racist names and swastika” incidents.
> WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN!?!!? <
Well, I ran it through my Johnny Quest decoder ring, and here’s what I got:
“But resist, we much we must and we will much about that be committed.”
So children, these are what you want to use when you plan your race-baiting hoaxes, said Principal Jussie.
So is there a swastika emoticon even in existence?? I just looked on my iPhone and I didn’t see one. Do I need to download the Third Reich emoji pack? (/sarcasm)
Exactly. This is the equivalent of dropping the f-— word in our generation. Now that it has lost the shock value because it is, like, every third word in popular rap songs, the kids need to move on to something else.
