A freshman senator revealed Wednesday that she almost quit the Air Force after she was sexually assaulted. Martha McSally, an Arizona Republican, called herself a military sexual assault survivor during a Senate Armed Services subcommittee hearing aiming to provide better support to victims.
Like so many women and men, I didnt trust the system at the time, McSally, who served in the Air Force from 1988 to 2010, said during the hearing. I blamed myself. I was ashamed and confused. I thought I was strong but felt powerless. The perpetrators abused their position of power in profound ways. In one case I was preyed upon and raped by a superior officer.
McSally, 52, said her experience eventually led her to want to help others avoid the same wholly inadequate responses with which she was presented....
I almost separated from the Air Force at 18 years of service over my despair. Like many victims, I felt like the system was raping me all over again. Before retiring as a colonel, McSally became the first American woman to fly in combat.
Last year, McSally also told the Wall Street Journal that she had been sexually abused by her high school track coach.
We have seen this act from the Dems. Not coming forward on the first episode maybe, but a combat pilot? I have a problem buying this. She knew how to go through channels. Have to be some extenuating circumstances or she cant open the can because she has some culpability in some fashion. She needs to show the evidence or explain why the wait to expose this. I dont know but Ill wait to hear more.
Was the rapist white? Was the coach?
That would add gravitas to the reports and cause the MSM react.
Were McSally to reveal the names of her oppressors after all these years would be a great injustice.
These are obvious maneuvers to try and do so!
If this is a he said versus she said then she should just say that. No evidence to support my claim so in choose to not name the perp. Sometimes life does that.
Leads me to believe she is characterizing behavior she deeply regrets but participated in, as rape.
Naming names allows us to test that.
Maybe half her squadron shows up with evidence that she was always finding ways to be alone with one superior and was known to be doinking him. Maybe her career got some very nice boosts from him also.
OR, we might find he was known to be a bully, and violent. Maybe the USAF has had a few other complaints on the same guy.
Her keeping it secret now is nothing but cowardly.
And this “reveal” happened at another one of these pussyhat type gatherings where she was speaking, sucking up to the MeToo crowd. So she’s already flirting with the DNC dark side.
Maybe she’s confusing actual rape with a dream she had about an airplane or a nuclear missile.
Independents can vote in the AZ GOP primary. But the state organization is dominated by the Cheap Labor folks with big money to destroy any conservative who runs.
McSally was a terrible candidate. This isn’t helping her. She was a pretend military officer supported by politicians with an agenda, which was bad enough. But now claiming to have been sexually assaulted at least twice?
Whether these allegations are true or false, by waiting so long, they’re basically unprovable.
Yes, as a combat pilot it raises questions.
“Were McSally to reveal the names of her oppressors after all these years would be a great injustice.”
Disagree if it was true. If it was true, the rat should be smoked out. If it was a drunken escapade where she was a participant, then she ought to keep it under her Stetson.
Simple as that."
He probably has done it to others...he may have been caught and punished by now. Or...who ever "he" may be is much to old to even carry the garbage out. This is dumb of Senator McSally....move on Senator and never repeat this ploy to get votes.
My daughter’s friend was raped by a high school coach. She was too afraid to report it to anyone. Years later she finally told her parents. It was too late to do anything about it.
I’ve wondered how many girls he raped over the years.
Nothing is gained by having a co-ed military it’s all downside.
If this is true it’s obviously terrible but damn it all these male-female problems are possible because politicians pandered to radical feminists. That treasonous idiot obongo even mixed the subs.
A rather curious time to reveal such an event. Anything else I say makes me look insensitive.
” ... she had been sexually abused by her high school track coach.”
Seems she would have told both stories if the subject came up. Maybe she likes being victim?
I understand that she wasn’t a very good candidate. Good on paper by VERY BORING. She lost to a horrible candidate. She was also a little too far left for me. She tried to play in the middle and got lost.
I hope we’re done with her. Move on and give someone else the opportunity.
That tracks with what I know of the two women who were raped in high school. Neither thought they would be believed, both felt they were somehow to blame. 35 years later they realize they might have been wrong and beat themselves up over the fact that they might have been able to prevent it happening to someone else. I offered to do whatever she wanted to the perp for one of them (good thing she had more sense than me)...
Yep.
She’s an idiot.
I’m glad she outed herself as such so soon.
I can see the point of a young girl being afraid to talk about something like rape. However, you dont get to be a combat pilot being a squish. Ego and self esteem is very real with those folks. Fighters fight its hard to just accept her story.
