Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) on Wednesday slammed former National Intelligence Director James Clapper for claiming he did not purposely lie to Congress when asked about an NSA mass surveillance program in March 2013, saying he sent the longtime intelligence official the question ahead of the hearing.
“James Clapper needs to stop making excuses for lying to the American people about mass surveillance. To be clear: I sent him the question in advance. I asked him to correct the record afterward. He chose to let the lie stand,” the Oregon Democrat responded to Clapper’s excuse in a tweet.

Congressional testimony is negotiated ahead of time. Questions and answers are negotiated, with little straying from the script allowed. That’s why everyone involved is reading or looking bored, and why obvious follow up questions don’t happen.
Doubt that? Contact a Congressman’s office and ask.

When one wants the question answered fully and completely.
He was head of NSA and still tied with them.
He just did a Key Word search and got the questions himself.

Wyden is a Democrat, not always a bad one but he’s quiet because he doesn’t always go along with the radicals in his party. He sometimes exhibits an honest streak, it’s in him but rarely seen.

IOW, Clapper's employer will cut him a big raise now.
I was hopeful about “Swamp drain”. It turned out to be a campaign talking point that never came to fruition. I don’t think we will ever see that purge unless it is done correctly and that is rather messy.
