Self-driving cars could be more likely to hit and kill black people due to flaws in the software used to detect objects, researchers have warned. In a pre-publication scientific paper, researchers from the University of Georgia found that computer vision systems are better at detecting people with lighter skin tones.

Well, don’t stop the self driving cars, put a reflective yellow stripe on all black people! That’s kind of the way our country is going today isn’t it? You have a problem that YOU created, then solve it with a rediculous solution. Progressivism truly is a mental disorder.

I wonder how long it will be before a young lady with an attitude in New Orleans crosses a busy street as slowly as she possibly, can and shoots the eye at an oncoming driverless car.
They better teach these cars what shooting the eye is, because that is a surly human being, usually female, usually Amish, daring a driver to play chicken, and it happens every often in New Orleans, especially when school lets out.
Come to where I live, Baltimore, and see black people walking against traffic lights, in the middle of blocks, between parked cars, and especially from behind the buses they just vacated. Many animals have superior situational awareness when it comes to navigating streets with vehicular traffic. So it makes sense that self-driving cars would likely hit more black people because there are more black people crossing streets illegally. It must be in the DNA or a symptom of lead paint ingestion during infancy.
No, just the designers and the programmers.
Maybe the cars should add auxiliary infra-red cameras, because everyone knows from TV and the movies that black people are the hottest.

The deep neural networks that are often used in these applications to classify objects are only as good as they’ve been “trained” to be. You train them by providing thousands of examples with the right answer and as it gets the wrong answer the network has to “adjust itself” to be closer - when done thousands of times it’ll get quite accurate but beyond 98% becomes a challenge.
There’s a case where a DNN by Google that could recognize animals in a picture incorrectly classified a black man as a gorilla (something like that) and they scrambled to add new “training” to the DNN.
So it might just require additional training. It is important for self-driving cars to classify objects for the purpose of anticipating behavior. Is an object at the side of the road a fire hydrant or a small child, vs. a dog, etc..
In general this specific finding is being overblown, they can probably improve and it’s only a statistical anomaly. That said, of course they’re going to jump up and down and scream about it - as though it is some deliberate outcome of white nationalists!
So stop developing them.
I think the whole point of the article is being missed. If a self driving car is apt to run over anyone, then that car should be banned from public sale and use on public roads. We aren’t talking about race, we are talking about human lives.
This is so ridiculous.
I have stopped and told a couple of them in a nice way, that "I cannot see you, please be careful" on dark nights. Both times they sensed my concern, and my caution was well taken.
How any black can continually vote for libs is mind boggling. There must be a point where the ol’ welfare check doesn’t trump dignity.
