Italy plans to join 'China's Belt and Road Initiative: Financial Times...

ROME - Italy has planned to sign a memorandum of understanding to become part of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

"The negotiation is not over yet, but it is possible that it will be concluded in time for (Xi's) visit," the newspaper reported, quoting Michele Geraci, the undersecretary in the Italian economic development ministry.

The United States said the project was unlikely to help Italy economically and could significantly damage the country's international image, the paper reported.

"We view BRI as a 'made by China, for China' initiative,"the report quoted Garrett Marquis, White House National Security Council spokesman, as saying.

The Belt and Road initiative, championed by President Xi Jinping, aims to link China by sea and land with south-east and central Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa, through an infrastructure network on the lines of the old Silk Road.

Aside from boosting trade and investment, Mr Xi aims to boost exchanges in areas such as science, technology, culture and education.

I think they should help China build a super-hiway that will help it move military equipment into Europe with ease.

Hungary may also do so. This is so annoying. This is Italy’s way of rebelling against the E.U. for even worse overlords.

Europe will sign on, and not just a few. Italy's vatican leadership has been kissing China's feet, who play a huge role in what Italy determines...though it's rarely advertised of course.

Well China's not building up it's military for nothing....and the only reason they're working with Russia as a partner is for Russia's military protection until they have their military where they want it. And Russia's using China for $$$$ investments to build up their manufacturing and agricultural base etc, which is really doing very well. But neither one is a love relationship to the other.....in fact just the opposite. We'll see this one day ahead for sure but for now they're playing on the same team regarding the US.

I wouldn’t disagree with that in total.

Russia doesn’t have the money to dig China out.

China doesn’t have the capital to dig itself out.

If China gets too cocky with North Korea, Trump can put the screws to it. He can cut off all trade with China.

Ouch!

BTW I don’t believe for a second China or Russia wants N.Korea to denuclearize....but they’re certainly both playing their hands in the game sufficient enough to escape the press.

Yep, the world stage is at a point where the West just surrenders, or has to face up to the fact we will have a WWIII and there’s nothing else we can do.

China is still pushing it’s luck in the South Eastern Pacific.

I don’t think we can allow it to just abscond with more islands down there.

This is coming to a head.

I agree.....but all these nation shifts were well moving along before Trump was elected...

I personally don't think we're surrendering rather that We do have to lessen greatly our footprint on the world stage in order for things to shape up (as it's written) in Europe, Russia and China. What God said will be done will be done...He's used the USA as the foothold to prevent things from escalating overseas.....but now it appears HE's giving room for the 'actors' to do just what we're seeing them do.......it is most interesting to follow. Especially since both China and Russia believe they are the ones controlling their steps.

The problem with the U. S. withdrawing from the world stage, is that at some point the U. S. would have to regain that ground. If we didn’t, we would be forced to defend on our own soil, and then massive numbers of U. S. Citizens would die.

We project to keep communication lines open with other nations, and that means MANY other nations.

I know folks think the world would level out right away if the U. S. were to withdraw. No, they would only hate us more and be emboldened to take actions because they thought we didn’t have the will to project any longer.

I warn folks against isolationism. It would be the absolute end of a half-way sane world.

God doesn’t not expect us to back into a corner and let Him do the heavy lifting.

We stand our ground and make our enemies fear what will happen if they dare poke a stick at us.

How long before China begins to foreclose unpaid loans by taking over ports and factories?

You really don't know what you are talking about

1. "Europe will sign on" -- Poland and others are balking at letting Huawei or others in, and others are not interested in slaving to China. So "Europe" won't sign on, neither will the EU as deals have to be approved unanimously by 27 nations and that's not going to happen"Italy's vatican leadership" - the leadership in the Vatican hasn't been Italian for decades. And Italy's ministers from M5S are pretty anti-clerical, so no, there isn't a huge role in trade issues. In social issues there is pressure, but that's also limited as apparent by the fact that Italy does not have an official religion

3. kissing China's feet - so a pastoral (not political) agreement that "he agreement states that China will recommend the Bishops before they are appointed by the Pope, it also stipulates that the Pope has authority to veto any Bishop which China recommends." is kissing the feet in your opinion? Really?

Well just to be clear..... the US will always have a place on the International Stage if for no other reason than NATO....but it’s ‘political power of influence’ with other nations will lessen on how these nations conduct themselves ‘in their demographic areas’.. would be a better way of saying it I think.

And of course we’ll always protect our own nation should any choose to poke a stick.....although we are seeing an invasion on our southern border that’s doing allot more than poking a stick...they’re coming in by droves as invaders would do in order to change our nation to what it is not. So I’m not convinced the ‘will’ to protect our nation will be there if the Demorats ever regain their power.
