ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) Another large group of migrants was arrested early Tuesday after illegally crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, marking the latest in a wave of Central Americans who have been apprehended in remote areas of New Mexico, authorities said Wednesday.
It's the second time in as many weeks that such a group has been encountered at Sunland Park. In mid-February, 311 people made their way around a pedestrian fence under the cover of darkness before being taking into custody. That was less than 24 hours after another group of 330 people were apprehended more than 150 miles (240 kilometers) to the west near the Antelope Wells port of entry.
More than two dozen large groups of 100 migrants or more have been apprehended in the region since Oct. 1, according to border officials.

Does that mean we should start calling burglars "uninvited house guests" ?
Yep, and then the Demonrats register them to vote, and harvest votes off them, and they don't even have to show up at the polls. Twisted system.
Sigh ... when will the press bother to get it right?
If they are illegally entering the country they aren’t migrants any more than a squatter is family.
SPJNK.
The picture is of one of the Stations of the Cross (green cross) placed along the trail to the statute at the top. Mexico is at left, New Mexico at the right. There is a 2.4 mile gap between the end of the fence at Anapra and where it picks up again at the Rio Grande river.
A recent and excellent video of the trail and trek to the top is at the link. The young lady narrating notes correctly that the hike is not to be taken except during Catholic Holy days (Good Friday for example) or during other scheduled events. The reason is that without a wall gangs, drug traffickers and illegals prey upon individuals or small groups. As you will see in the video, on Holy or event days, security is present (sort of like in Israel I imagine). I strongly recommend watching the video.
The president should have sent huge numbers of soldiers and Marines to these “remote parts of New Mexico.”
I love the president, but he made a big mistake by not doing this starting in January 2017.
Don't we operate under a degree of federalism, on a sliding scale?
The federal gubmint forbids the individual states from enforcing federal immigration law.
Under a Confederation individual states could have more power to regulate immigration.
Asking since I am not well versed.
‘We’ had the house, the senate, and the executive branch for the previous 2 years. Why did that not change then?
Do you just plain like firearms? Or do you support the American 2nd Amendment in principle? If so, do check out this BOLD new website before they censor it: https://GunDynamics.com
It’s infuriating.
Actually it’s the Global elites, (Soros and the Globalist cabal) pouring these illegals into the the US as one would send an invading army into another nation they want to destroy or weaken or both.
“where is that?”
From the article: “near Sunland Park, a community just west of the busy border city of El Paso, Texas.” On the other side of the mountain in the foreground of the picture (where the pedestrians are coming from) is the edge of the El Paso suburbs. The urban area on the left of the picture is the end of the Western suburbs of Juarez, in Mexico.
The long line on the ground is one of the first stretches of border barrier completed during the Trump Administration. It is basically divides the Western flank of the El Paso/Juarez urban area, extending out into the desert along the border.
Before, it was a long walk for an average Joe to walk around the Western edge of the barrier from Juarez to El Paso. Now, as you note, it is TOO far for an average guy to walk in a day. A twenty mile run of that new barrier was put there.
That place was prioritized because of the high rate of human and drug traffic that used to occur there. A great bulk of that traffic has now been stopped/re-directed.
The traffickers now bus these large groups of migrants to temporarily overwhelm the Border Patrol officers in the area as a distraction, to open a better window for their drug mules.
Lower Alabama
That 20 mile stretch running West from El Paso into the desert is mostly 18 feet tall. It is often described as 18 to 30 feet tall, because taller panels are used on steeper slopes, like the banks of rivers or dry gullies - but the overwhelming bulk of this run (out into pretty flat desert) is consistently 18 feet tall, including the five feet of flat anti-climb plate at the top.
Sunland Park, NM 18 foot bollards with anti-climb plate:
In other areas, such as Calexico, CA, the bollards are consistently 30 feet tall. Several of the segments that have been awarded and will start construction over the next couple of months (in California and Arizona) will be consistently 30 feet tall (like the East side of Calexico, Tecate, Andrade, Yuma and Lukeville).
New 30 Foot Trump bollards West of the Port of Entry in Calexico, CA:
In the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, the segments awarded so far are based on a significantly different design, in that the concrete base is massive FEMA Hurricane-certified flood control levee. Depending on the local elevation, the height of the concrete base from the Mexican side can vary from almost ground level (unusual) to over twenty feet high. Ten feet or more is common. On top of the concrete base, the new steel bollards contracted so far in the Rio Grande Valley will be 18 feet tall. Initial construction began this month.
Some existing Bush-era Rio Grande Valley Levee barrier, with short "side rail" style bollards on top (just to keep the cars on top from falling over):
We had the house, the senate, and the executive branch for the previous 2 years. Why did that not change then?
We needed 60 in the Senate to do anything that the Dems did not want to do, but we only had 51.
You don’t cross without the permission of the cartel controlling that side of the border. In this case that is probably Sinaloa.
Sinaloa made a cool 750,000 bucks tonight.
Every smuggled illegal alien represents around 4k paid to the cartel.
And those tracks that pass so close to the border became infamous for cross border train robberies a few years ago.
They stole all kinds of things from slow passing trains, the railroad had to post guards.
Trump also failed to prioritize the wall and ending catch and release. He signed multiple wall-less spending bills from Ryan and McConnell.
By the migration numbers, we are in Obama’s third term.
