For the first time since forecasters began recording data at least 132 years the mercury did not reach 70 degrees in downtown Los Angeles for the entire month of February.
The average high for the month was 61 degrees, significantly lower than the historical average of 68 for February. That makes it the eighth-coldest February on record, said Ryan Kittell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.
Most of the time well get one or two Santa Ana wind events in between the rain that would give us temperatures above 70 degrees, he added. But its just been back-to-back storms and no offshore flows.
Its a big change for Southern California, where temperatures having been rising to record levels in recent years along with a prolonged drought. Weather experts said the chilly February doesnt signal a larger change in some of those trends.
Even factoring in the cold snap, California is still warmer than average, and swings between periods of severe winter rainstorms and profound drought will probably become more pronounced in the future because of climate change, said Daniel Swain, a climate scientist at UCLA.
He added that it might not be as cold as locals perceive it to be given how much warmer it has been in the last several years. This year seems anomalous because we have already internalized a lot of the warming thats occurred, he said.

In other words, "Who are you stupid rubes going to believe? Your lying eyes and the thermometer or me?"
But he digs deeper..."[You dopes] have 'already internalized a lot of the warming thats occurred'."
Translation..."Don't cut off my meal ticket. I don't want to have to go find a real job."
Talk about grasping at straws! Sheesh.
Nothing can ever disprove global warming. Especially not colder temperatures.
It takes three people to write one article?
Its the latest trend in journalism. Groupthink authors.
Oh My the poor things had to wear a sweater , Boo Hoo
How about a mile of ice on top of LA & NY?
Vegas got three snowfalls this winter
Here in Minneapolis we had one of the coldest and snowiest February I can remember. Ten below tonight. Should be 30 above.
Average snow fall for February is 8 inches, we got nearly 4 feet.
This record cold February has not just affected California. We had a ridiculously cold February in Washington as well along with an incredible amount of snow. Now its March and my thermometer is still in the 20s this morning. The lows are going to continue be in the 20s for the next week. My heating bill has gone through the roof.
“It takes three people to write one article?”
And none of them are likely to be either white or natural-born!
It’s too hot - glow-bull warming!
It’s too cold - climate change.
The earthquakes are more - climate change.
Too many tornados (predicted, didn’t happen) - glow-bull warming.
Hurricanes much stronger (not really) - climate change.
Hmmmm, beginning to detect a pattern here.
When I lived in SoCal, January-February-March was my favorite time of year. Cooler temps sure, but the rains were a welcome change, and afterwards the skies would be crystal clear and the mountains snowcapped. Stand on the beach, the Pacific to the West, snowcapped mountains to the East. Beautiful.
The extremely brutal fall and winter of 1976 and 1977 was used as proof we were entering a NEW ICE AGE!
The month of January was remarkable as for the entire month, the entire US continent (48 states) was covered with heavy clouds. No sun at all. How would that work for solar today?
The idiots will still be claiming that its all caused by global warming.
If there is nothing that can falsify a theory, it ceases to be science.
I heard there was a dusting of snow in some part of the LA area recently. It shocked some of the locals there.
But remember, global warming causes ANY change in the weather, so one of the coldest Februarys in LA is a sign of global warming.
sarcasm.
I remember going to stay with some relatives one winter in Huntington Beach many years ago. I left North Dakota and it was 20 below. I got there it was 70 above.
I wanted to go the beach and swim in the ocean. They said........go to the beach in the winter??????????
Not even the 50+ feet of snow that have fallen in the Sierras near Lake Tahoe this season?

And add in the brush fires and forest fires which have always been a threat in California and other western states. Those events which have always been a treat, are being blamed on global warming too.
Everything is due to global warming.
The miracle of the Chicago Cubs winning the World Series in 2016 is probably due to global warming.
I think too, the media has their templates for stories written.
Examples of reports as follows :
A hurricane has struck(fill in blank of location). This is the worst storm the local people can remember. This intense storm is due to climate change.
A blizzard is on its way to (fill in the blank). Locals say they haven’t seen this much snow since the blizzard of (fill in blank with a year decades ago). The intensity of the storm is due to climate change.
So they set up the story, that severe weather has happened somewhere, then tack on the obligatory paragraph blaming the weather event on climate change.
