Medicare for All Loses Momentum Among Democrats
Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/01/19 | Stephanie Armour, Kristina Peterson

Democratic support for Medicare for All is slipping from the high levels seen around the November midterm elections as voters worry about its price tag and the toll it would take on both private and employer health coverage.

The proposal seeks to provide everyone in the U.S. with access to health coverage under a federal system that would replace Medicaid, Medicare, most private insurance and employer coverage. Progressive candidates issued full-throated endorsements during campaigns for congressional and state-level elections last November. As the message resonated among voters, even some centrist candidates joined as well.

Now, enthusiasm for the proposal is waning as supporters face pointed questions over how it would work—and how it would be paid for. As a result, more candidates are backing intermediate measures, including optional buy-ins to government-run coverage that are likely more attainable in the short term.

When people see Ocasio-Cortez pushing this, and see what an idiot she is, some may conclude it’s an unworkable bad idea, and look at the kinds of idiots who are pushing it.

...

There’s nothing progressive about those big government leftists.

Trumps work to lower medical costs with transparency is progressive.

“supporters face pointed questions over how it would work—and how it would be paid for.”

This is why I NEVER believe that this idiot AOC actually and rightfully graduated with a degree in economics. Seriously. It just shows that the department most probably gave her the diploma due to white guilt..

This is a trap for the RATs and I think we should let them walk into it thoroughly before we snap it on them.

Union members are one of the RATs largest constituencies, and medical coverage is a big deal in almost every union contract.

Now they are proposing to make this coverage illegal, which will give union members great heartburn. Medicare for all is never going to be as good as the coverage union members already have, but we do not need to point this out until after they have firmly embraced this tar baby.

I hope so. Let the Democrats destroy themselves; President Trump reelected in a landslide. I'm looking forward to the 2020 Democratic National Convention being like the one in '68.

Putting health care in the hands of government is nothing short of insanity. It’s easy to predict what will happen. Just look at -

Post office. Been just a whisker short of bankrupt for what...20 years now?

School system. When I was younger we were # 7 worldwide, dropped to #17 when Obummer was elected, #28 before he was done.

Welfare. $500 million deficit while Trump campaigned. Widespread welfare fraud has been known and ignored for at least 30 years.

Social Security. Just a whisker from bankrupt for 20 years, and this is money we paid in all our lives, but somebody had to put it in the general fund so politicians could spend it...Oh we can pay it back later...Oh really??? I think it was LBJ that did it but not sure.

I’m sure there are other government run programs you could take a look at, food stamps, low income housing etc.

Why anyone would want them in charge of health care I just don’t understand. I don’t want the government in charge of an ice cream truck.

But watch how they handle their own finances...

Thanks Libloather. If Jeff Flake hadn't retired, and McCain hadn't died, they'd lead the fight to get it passed.

Didn’t union members get a carve out for their Cadillac coverage under Obamacare? I remember they were lobbying for it.

The Cadillac tax was pushed back to 2022. I don’t believe unions will receive a waiver.

Kamala Harris is the one publicly supporting elimination of private insurance; I’m sure she wishes she could walk back the comment (not the sentiment).

First, “Medicare for All’ would destroy Medicare for the elderly AND it would turn all medical care for the general population into “Medicaid For All” - a nightmare.

Democrats would lose the elderly and anyone with half a brain. It’s insane AND voters don’t want it.
