Former Weekly Standard editor-in-chief Steve Hayes and National Review's Jonah Goldberg will be joining forces to launch a new conservative media company, according to a Thursday report.
The Axios report comes just three months after The Weekly Standard, a conservative magazine that was critical of President Trump that has been printing since 1995, announced it would be ceasing publication.
The report says Goldberg and Hayes, who are currently seeking investors, plan "a reporting-driven, Trump-skeptical company that will begin with newsletters as soon as this summer, then add a website in September, and perhaps ultimately a print magazine."
It adds that Hayes will likely serve as CEO, with Goldberg serving as editor-in-chief. Both are Fox News contributors.
"We believe theres a great appetite on the center-right for an independent conservative media company that resists partisan boosterism and combines a focus on old-school reporting with interesting and provocative commentary and analysis," Hayes tells Axios.
Goldberg, who calls himself a "Never Trumper," says "Trumpism" isn't based in ideology as much as it is a "psychological phenomenon."
"I don't think I should change my positions about all sorts of things just because (Trump's) a Republican," Goldberg told CNN's David Axelrod on "The Axe Files" podcast in Oct. 2018.
"What bothers me, and what I think is so corrupting of conservatism and of the Republican Party, is that we are hardwired evolutionarily to resist the idea that our leaders are bad people."
"Trumpism isn't an ideological or intellectual program. It's a psychological phenomenon, both in terms of understanding the President and understanding his biggest supporters."
A launch date for Goldberg and Hayes's new project has not been set.
Goldberg doesn't know how to read tea leaves.
Doomed to fail.
John Kasich stated at the first debate that he is as conservative.
NO, John is a LIAR just like Goldberg...
Another attempt to get Trump.
Backed by the deep state?
Since National Review gave up its credibility, maybe they can start a new one?
Meh...
“Let’s launch another RINO media company”
Goldberg is a narcissist and doesn’t want to admit he’s wrong.
Good luck with that.
Im sure there are lots of libtards eager to hear what Never Trumpers have to say. There are so few sources of drivel they long for. /s (I would hope it was superfluous but who knows?)
I didn’t see either Goldberg or Hayes on the list of CPAC speakers this year. That should be their first clue.
Along with “outing the RINOs/GOPe,” Trump has shown us that some of the “Conservative Pundits” we listened to before his arrival, are out of the same “sewage treatment plant!”
Now, if only these two could the the likes of George Will and David Gergen to join them! Maybe Susan Collins after she looses her seat next year.
Rino Media.
So who all are going to be pretend conservatives? Oh yes, that would be #nevertrumpers, the holier than thou losers.
What we really need to do is support (or start) genuine populist media — ie, pro-Trump and what Trump is trying to accomplish.
It would be amazing the genuine news and facts that kind of reporting could produce.
After fifty years of so called conservatives promising and not delivering I have decide I’m backing people who stand up for what I believe and actually work to accomplish it....tired of the deep state.
Yeah...because what the media lacks is a Trump-skeptical viewpoint! I mean, after all, the entire media promotes Trump as a genius, so there is a real need for SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE to start a media outlet opposed to Trump.

Yes, if this is going to be more anti-Trump baloney, it’s going to fail.
Koch Brothers throwing more money down a drain hole?
Jonah’s a smart man, and I like him—and his mother—very much, but he needs to get on the Trump bandwagon.
“conservative”
I’m actually a distant acquaintance of Jonah; met him several times, drank some beer (in a larger group), and some sporadic email correspondence about some specific issues.
He’s a smart guy, a true conservative, a nice guy, and a hilarious guy, but just won’t admit his error re: Trump.
I don’t particularly care for Trump on a personal level. He strikes me as an ass and a bit of a fake. His attacks on Cruz were absurd. And I fully expected him to cozy up to Shumer and become Bush on Steroids.
But Shumer, et al, made a strategic mistake with Trump: they were complete dicks to him. So now Trump’s dug in, and actually become a fantastic conservative president, far better than Cruz could have ever been (too cerebral) and far better than my expectations.
In short, personal issues with Trump aside, Trump is exactly the leader this country needs.
Goldberg never got where I am, and never will.
This effort will fail.
