No, we don’t really have a preference as to our gender. It is something that is confirmed at conception.

That doesn't make any sense. Clearly some people have their "preferences" in spite of what they were born biologically. What that means and what (if anything) should be done about it, I don't know, but one can't deny that people sometimes have wishes or desires that don't correspond to their physical type.
