It’s funny to hear Jeff Toobin admit that’s he’s been burned over and over for the past three years by predicting Trump will be hurt by the latest attacks. He said the Cohen attacks won’t hurt him either.
In other words, those top brass that Kim depends upon for his safety, better ensure Kim's safety for the sake of this peace process and that they themselves will be rewarded from the ensuing economic prosperity.
It's a shi&&& situation, but dealing with them and trying to make peace is of course better than continuing down the path a devastating additional war that might even go nuclear.
Actually, I think there is a different dynamic going on here, and it appears to be a Leftist talking point (That Trump did the "right thing" by walking away) since I am hearing it come from several Leftist sources.
I believe they want to try to set the expectation that Trump went to Vietnam to meet with Kim Jong Un as simply a way to try to distract the "serious and damaging" coverage back home.
Normally, they would bash him for a futile negotiation failure (which under normal circumstances they would do) but it serves them better to make it appear that he did something "right" by implying he DID go over there for a distraction photo-op agreement but didn't sign anything.
The two are mutually exclusive. They cannot bash him for poor negotiations, because that would imply he actually went over there to negotiate, not posture. But if they damn him with faint praise by saying he didn't succumb to his intent to simply distract from his "problems", that props up their kabuki stage that he DID go over there to distract.
Bingo on the headline. It is my opinion that Kimmie didn’t make a sweeping deal because he didn’t have PERMISSION to make one. Deeper sanctions, that start pinching the upper crust in NK will be needed to get some further concessions. IMHO.
If you think we have a deep state... you haven’t considered how deep things are in North Korea :)
“There is every sign that this outcome in Hanoi is a predictable stage in the process of obtaining consensus among the North Korean ruling class that they must give up on the strategy of confrontation and isolation, with their survival guaranteed solely by nukes, and instead open up to the outside world and the prosperity market economies can generate. “
THAT is as much a false narrative as anything else.
Helping North Korea become like China, as another Communist dictatorship running a nationalist mercantilist state-capitalist economy, with all the monopoly of the dictatorship in place, and financially much stronger, will not produce long range national security for South Korea. It will merely give North Korea the “peaceful” opportunity and financial wherewithal to massively increase poltiical subversion of South Korea. People have to realize the only rationale for the existence of the regime in North Korea is reunification of the peninsula ON ITS TERMS.
YES, I was a teen but I remember. :)
War monger monster he was.
People here are making the old sound too new.
I BET in 20 or 30 years or whenever, some R is going to get elected and some dem will say “I wish we had Trump again!! At least you could reason with him!”
Great thought. Thanks.
Is that conjecture?
Or are you able to offer proof of that claim?
Please offer evidence.
LOL. You **do** realize the President made his decision based on the analysis, in fact he and Pompeo yesterday presented the Norks with precisely this information from those same agencies to reject the bait and switch deal for just decommissioning of Yangbyon only.
It is you sir or maam how doesnt appear to have a clue about these matters.
